Trevorwinch, I've been to Scheffau for last 5/6 years, love the skiwelt area. First time, we stayed in hotel Alpin, can't remember what TO was. Alpin was great hotel, free drinks with dinner, their own pool and think they might have a sauna as well. Nice area for walking. It's right in middle of village which is opposite side of valley floor to main gondola. Skibus stops right outside hotel and takes about 4 mins to gondola car park and there's also a very easy run from hotel which takes you under road to the older gondola, both gondola's are about 100m apart and run parallel to each other ending up at the same top station. You can leave your gear at the Ski shop at bottom station for a small charge, which is what my OH does as she's a V reluctant sker, and would happily stay at Alpin if didn't want to ski, (she just said so) Red Bull bar at bottom of gondolas and a bar in the village so not as noisy as Soll or Ellmau. Option in hotel to book into their pizzeria for one of the evening meals, and they do a cracking' après ski snack service, the usual cafe, cakes, sometimes even a variety of finger food. I would give the hotel a 9 out of 10, losing that all valuable point for not being able to fall out of bed onto piste  check out the hotel website and www.skiwelt.at
A full day tour over to westendorf makes a great day out too  Staying in a pension this year (3rd time) which is just opposite side of road to gondola station, 3 min walk. |

Scheffau, visibility was atrocious this AM, but, improved throughout the day. Also, snow has been falling V lightly and intermittently throughout day. Lower temps has kept the pistes in great condition, stark contrast to yesterday. Snowing lightly now, hope it carries on overnight.

Weather was glorious on sat, when we touched down at Salzburg, a voice was heard to say "are we in Malaga'. Had beers on balcony in T shirt in PM. terrible having to make the choice. Am in Scheffau. Snow was V good first thing, but like most other places commented on here, gets progressively slushy through day, which makes it really hard work on thighs, am aching this AM. Managed to ski to bottom station in Ellmau, but didn't wander much further afield rest of day, came down in gondola from Scheffau mid station mid PM :?. Pistes weren't too busy and should be less busy now weekend's over. Snow report shows temp dropping a bit with a couple of cm's of snow falling next 24 hrs, with 5 cm's over at westendorf. Am on dark side lessons today, should be interesting, hoping the snow will be good enough for round robin ski tour of skiwelt on thurs. As Nelly says though, any skiing's good skiing. Plan for max skiing in AM's, Everyone stay safe :D

I know, that seems ages away :? 04:00 taxi, 07:20 ETD Manchester, 10:35 ETA Salzburg, 10:45 on bus. Even allowing for having to wait for the next arrival at Sal, should be able to manage a cheeky sharpener on the slopes in the PM, Hoooorraaahhhhhhh  |
