Forgot to add that you can join SCGB in resort, and groups gather outside city express intersport shop at 10:00 on Sun AM, . Leader will sometimes let newcomers Ski with group on first day as a "taster". If you don't like, don't have to join.

Consider joining Ski Club GB, daily leading all around Zell ski area with quality Ski Leaders, sometimes Kitsteinhorn and further afield. Excellent Aprés too.

Tony, Dec 23 2012, I broke Tib & Fib boarding, and had planned to travel to Mauritius some 3 weeks later in Jan 2013. Consultant at Hospital in UK said there was no way he would give me a fit to fly certificate, despite the obvious fact that I'd flown back to UK from Austria. I informed Travel insurance Co and also went and saw my GP. I had to pay an extra premium for Mauritius flights, £12:00 if I recall correctly. I visited GP who checked all my notes, X-rays, etc and then wrote me a letter saying I could fly, and the main risk was DVT which we had discussed, and I went and bought very fetching DVT stockings for flights. (GP Letter cost me £25:00). I also went and bought one of those waterproof rubber cast boots, and managed to self physio by spending time walking in the swimming pool every day, worked wonders. I would suggest you check the small print under medical paragraph of Airlines rules. Given that your OH big toe should be well on way to recovery after 10 weeks, I wouldn't think insurance would stop you flying. As for you're OH actually skiing, I guess that's a bit of suck it and see, pain relief gel can be a godsend, and lasts for a few hours. Have you considered a visit to your nearest ski slope to gauge how if goes? Adrenaline while skiing can also help by focussing the mind on something other than pain. Anyway, really hope that you both manage to travel and enjoy the mountains, and hope OH big toe recovers fully.

Off to Zell a See 11/01/14. Must say, with a certain amount of trepidation as I suffered spiral fracture of Tib & Fib last Xmas while boarding. Have been to Chillfactor skiing a couple of times over last few weeks and don't seem to be too affected, Ski boots are giving some pain around shin as skinline and ankle girth(ooo err) are quite different now due to plates. Must say, Austrian medical service were the canine danglies. My lovely comfy board boots are hung up (temporarily) until I'm happy that confidence hasn't completely deserted me.????

Rauris 22/12/12. Anyone got any tips please, keep 'em clean though. It will be the first time I've been there and it looks pretty limited, although as I've taken to the dark side, I'll be on lessons and consolidating last years efforts, if it ever starts to snow there, so won't be looking to rack up the mileage. Also bought new pair of board boots thurs night, Head 5 Star Boa's, £99, do any riders know whether that's a good deal?

Mekka, I've skied there in a previous life, and it's well worth a day trip. Dependant on snow conditions they sometimes close the road up to Troodos, so do check. The time I and 3 colleagues went, we had to push the car up the final stretch of road as it was bucketing down with snow and they shut the road just after we got through. Luckily there was a British Forces R&R centre at Troodos, and we managed to blag overnight accommodation. So ended up having 2 days skiing in the end. As you can see from the piste map already posted, skiing is limited, but a great day out nonetheless. Journey up is an adventure in itself. Many years since I did it, so if you give it a go, it'd be interesting to read your feedback.
