bandit wrote:Thanks Rose :D Yes, you are quite correct, Zermatt is dominated by the Matterhorn. Despite having several mountains surrounding the resort, it's the most recognisable peak.
I read somewhere that the shape was the inspiration for Toblerone :D

Oooh I got a geography question right. My sense of direction and geography is well noted to be one of the worst.

No well missed out on that one, my son is 27 and would sooner have a holiday with the lads, getting bladdered every night. I could never have afforded it when he was little. And yes he still gives me a list at Xmas. A snow holiday would be his worst nightmare.

I recently joined a Lapland forum, to gather more info for my trip next year. The people on the forum all very nice, made me very welcome.
But I have been gobsmacked at just how much money these people spend on their Lapland trips. Most of these people are dedicated Laplanders, they go about three times a year. The most expensive times, Xmas/Newyear, Feb half term and easter. They are paying thousands. They all ski, book every safari trip going, arrange for Santa to come to cabins on Xmas eve, the amount of money spent on kids clothing is unreal, bearing in mind that they will have outgrown it by next year. The stuff they take also, how they get it all in luggage allowance is beyond me. They will even take Xmas food, special santa gold embossed coins, letters, lanterns, Xmas decorations, even lanterns that you put your Santa letters in and send them up in the sky. Flashing light santa stockings, glow sticks, the lists go on. They prepare for these holidays all year long.
Dont get me wrong it must be wonderful to give your kids a holiday of a lifetime, when they are little to see Santa, but this is unbelievable.
Some people will spend thousands for just a three day trip, surely they could have as much enjoyment In say Austria for amuch longer time.
When am I an "Old Codger"?
