I can write the words, guys, I spawned a wordsmith... it is the situations I need.
Go and start your own songs.....but choose a different ski subject please. C'mon, what happened in your ski class ~ could have happened to someone else in class, maybe someone you didn't really like.... Ok, perhaps if you have been/are a schileurer, what happened in your class. |

Apart from skiing and water colour painting alpine views, I also do a small amount of song writing, but only about skiing and the mountains.
It's November, and this is a time I normally try some more ski song writing. Last year, I garnered assistance from J2skiers, and filched some ideas, in producing "Magic Skis" ~ a fantasy of having a pair of magic skis, and a day in their life. This was later looked over by an ex-member of Fairport Convention, who is a full time singer songwriter. He made a few suggestions to provide some polish~ although he lost some of the "ski-ness". This year, my request to J2skiers is contributions for a song that will just be called "Ski School", or "Ski Skool". Much depends on how the content ends up. It will have a humourous angle, although some of the humour may be black. I would like your ski school experiences. These will be filtered, and maybe joined up, modified, reversed ~ you get the picture. I want to end up with a balanced series of episodes. It will be written from the angle of a cynical, frosty, seen-it-all ski instructor, but what he says should resonate with those who have suffered at his hands, or those of a similar ilk. My problem is ~ although I have skied for at least two hundred years, errm, I have, errm, never been in ski class. :( Contributions and ideas are welcomed, at least we should have some fun. In "Magic Skis", I used ideas from TonyH, EmmaEvs, and others. Everyone has different experiences! Ich danke... |

Spot on Trencher. The two videos show how the children act naturally, defensive at first then relaxed. With confidence the skis relax into a more parallel position, less plough. Then a smart move, once the confidence is high, is to run some exercises, skiing straight down the fall line on a reasonably gentle slope, with repeat turns, aimed at rhythm ~ TURN,TURN,TURN, ..... Two to three runs has them forgetting the plough, and the skis are doing the work. Good time to work on some proper technique then.... |

Use of snowplough for occasional control was not the issue. It is whether or not a person is taught this as a first learning tool.
I had dinner on Saturday night with Peter Habeler, from Mayrhofen. He owns a ski school there, (and he was the climbing partner of Reinhold Messner, in the first oxygen-less ascent of Everest) We discussed this issue. He agreed that the snowplough was an initial learning tool, but that the pupil should be quickly moved on to carve control. Hence we both see this the same way. On the subject of parental control of young skiers, in my resort, parents would be frowned upon by their friends, if they did not ski one parent above, and one parent below. It would be unusual to see anything different. |

I had just skied 70km, and finished up with the odd drink or five. Anyway, it bucketed snow that night, so I was the hero of Gunthers ~ not sure if it was for the snow though...... |

That is good info.It certainly allows you to drive through Germany into Austria within the same timeframe. perhaps a little longer. AA routefinder confirms.
That gives you more options. Next stage is to define your family ability needs. Then you can consult the back inside leaf of Inghams catalogue and list resorts that match your needs. Thatts the stage that I would start my cost spreadsheet, (total cost) |
