Trencher also mentioned that - I'll have to grow my hair and go and try some on!

Do they come in size 9?

I've just returned from Belle Plagne and prices really weren't too bad in the Spar. Alcohol was no more expensive than the UK and other things might have been a it more expensive but not eye-watering. Can also get things like rotisserie chickens for 9 Euros and take-away pizza for 6-10 euros.

As previously stated if you have the chance stock up in a hypermarket en route - for choice rather than price.

Would only suggest you take 'English' things that the French might not have.

That is certainly something I intend to do.......as long as I'm not buying a pair that still cripple me. No-one I've mentioned this to has really understood the problem and I don't know if it's something people just put up with or if I've got a particular problem due to distance running and cycling.

Any advice on suitable models or just shops that know their stuff in boot fitting would be gratefully received.

As everyone appears to be uber-fit has anyone experienced problems with fitting their calf into ski-boots? I've just got back from skiing and suffered for the first hour every time I put boots on as my calves didn't fit and were pinched when fastening the buckle(?) thingies. As a result my skiing style was properly off and also resulted in thigh burn.

Tried going back to the ski hire shop to see if other boots were better but a lack of language skills meant I couldn't explain the exact problem and the bloke just kept saying they need to be tight.

I do a lot of distance running and cycling - anyone had similar problems?

We'd like to know how much things cost from the local Spar etc as we plan on cooking and drinking in - not as fun I know but we've spent the last two summers travelling in the states (so are pretty skint at the moment but are also used to making our money stretch!)

Any info/ advice would really be appreciated,

Thanks,

Hi

Was in Belle Plagne last year (and will be again on Saturday) so am a good customer of Spar! I can't give exact prices but it certainly isn't silly money - a slight premium on top of normal supermarket prices so won't be too bad for self catering. We always ate out at night but got stuf there for breakfast and lunch. And the rotisserie Chickens always looked damn good.

Hi Jen

Don't know about packages but don't rule out diy. Get a budget flight to the alps Chambery or Geneva etc. with Easyjet, Jet2 or Ryanair. Look for a resort within a reasonable taxi ride of that airport, or if further afield rent a car through holidayautos. Then you just need to google whatever accommodation you want in that resort.

Ski hire and lift passes can easily be sorted in resort or even online before you go if you prefer.

It's more work than booking a package but if there aren't any of those around it's certainly not difficult and there are certain advantages(is often, but not always, cheaper and gives you more flexibility).

It might but inflation is also dropping in Europe suggesting their rates may be cut in the middle of the month - which is apprantly a factor in the spike this morning.

That is very kind - if you can just ensure it lasts until Saturday when I can draw money out there and pay for the GFs lessons I'd be most grateful!
