It's a safety issue with the chairs - they aren't designed with a run-off at the bottom so normally there won't be anywhere for a pedestrian to move out the way of the still moving chair. I would imagine there would be a lot of stopping and starting of the chairs if they did let pedestrians use them which wouldn't be popular with the skiers.
Most ski resorts have cable cars that will be more suitable - in La Plagne there were plenty of non-skiers going up to the glacier and of course they are designed to be used in both directions. |

Don't be disturbed by the 'fatal' tag on one of the youtube videos - it's some arsehole's idea of a joke.
Reuters report doctors are otpimistic he'll recover from head and lung injuries but he remains in an induced coma. Crikey! |

Hi Simon
I can only suggest searching with Expedia or Hotels.Co.Uk to identify places that accepts short-stay bookings. It obviously depends on your budget but hotels are more likely to accept but are pricey. Expedia I noticed had a hotel for £200+ per night - I wouldn't pay it but perhaps that's not a problem for you. Hotels.co.uk have reasonable rates for places a little (15 miles) outside of Avoriaz. If that is no good I suggest waiting until a week or two before when hoteliers are starting to panic - I bet they'll be accepting short stay bookings then. Also try some of the French companies - I used Pierre et Vaccances (in La Plagne) this year and was pretty happy with them. They offer short stay in off-peak periods (January and late March) but again I bet they change their mind when business is slow! |

Have you looked at easyjet from Newcsatle? They are really giving away flights at the mo. If you can fly midweek in March you can get return flights to Geneva for under £50 and even cheap ones on Saturdays. Then you can hire a car (I paid £114 for week hire with Holidayautos) or go to a resort nearby via taxi or coach. You could even hang fire on accommodation until just before leaving to get something cheap and ensure you go somewhere with good snow. Its a bit of work googling things but can be pretty cheap. Don't know how long Easyjet fares are on promotion though. |

I hope it's Salzburg but heard it might be Sochi?!

It's a shame they keep cutting away to show him rather than his point of view which is surely the point of the feature. We see what skiers look like when the competitors do the course but not what it looks and feels like to do. Grrrrrrr.

I used the Geneva car hire last week - how on earth have they billed you for the bus? Through the post - how did they get your details?
My main concern was how to find the place on the way back to the airport but it's actually pretty straightforward and well sign-posted from when you arrive at the airport. Definitely allow extra time though - as stated it is a treck and, maybe it's just Budget, but it's the first time I haven't been able to dump the car and run. I had to dig out the contract before they would take the keys and inspect the car which was after being ignored for a few minutes. Also expect a bit of a scrum on a Saturday to get on the bus to the airport. I'd suggest you need to be there at least 40 minutes before you need to check in for your flight. |

Hi
Just got back from La Plagne yesterday. I just had a La Plagne pass and that was enough for me. Of course it depends on your ability and how quickly you get around. You can buy a La Plagne ski pass with 1 day Paradiski access which, if you are adventurous, might satisfy your curiousity. If spending money is tight however it really isn't necessary and the La Plagne pass should suffice. |
