I thought there was something leaving from the Frontenac Hotel in Quebec City but I'm sure the tourist department in Quebec would be able to confirm or correct that. It is about a 30 minute drive from Old Quebec along Hwy 20 I think.

You see, this is a reply which raises more questions than answers.

So what happened at 3:39 ? Did the camera freeze? The batteries die? Or is this where he hit a rock? Or maybe the chopper caused an avalanche and buried him. The picture did kind of fade out

Merry Christmas to all of you. You all provide lots of information and entertainment. With winter's approach my hope for you is lots of snow, great deal of time to enjoy it, and skis that do what you want them to do!

Goff,

My mistake  when I saw your location as Rochester I assumed Rochester, New York rather than Kent
We have had a spell of wet, windy and very mild (+15C) lately and this weather usually flows up the US seaboard and when you mentioned your cloudy skies ... well ... you got the rest ...

If you haven't already seen them, the Iridium flares are really neat and with a sharp eye and good timing your un-knowing friends will be impressed when you suggest "Oh, look up over there --- there will be a flash of light in a few seconds!" If there isn't a flash they will not be surprised BUT when there is you will be The One ! Night time XC skiing would be a great opportunity for this observation.

Good luck,

Mike

ise,
No moon visible here last night!
The same weather system over goff kept the Nova Scotia skies hidden with the cloud cover. Due to the weather you can never be sure of catching astronomical events.

Here is a site (of possible interest) which gives some satellite viewing opportunity predictions if you know your lat & long. These predictions are really accurate and have provided me with many views of the ISS and Iridium satellites. If you're out for some night skiing check this site for info which could impress your friends.

Canada's other resorts

Not really in the resort class but a couple of nice hills in mainland Nova Scotia are Ski Martock, http://www.martock.com/ And Ski Wentworth, http://www.skiwentworth.ca/. Martock is about 45 minutes from Halifax, Nova Scotia's Capital and Wentworth about 90 minutes. Our climate is not very dependable for cold or snowy weather until mid January. However with enough cold weather these hills can make all the snow they need.
Good accommodations (in Windsor and Truro) can be found 15 and 30 minutes from the hills.
These hills will host the various ski events for the Canada Winter Games in 2011.
