I love the road gap and the butter off the cornice, don't love the other Eric Pollard-looking stuff.
Lets not turn this in to a snowheadsesque debate on helmets, some people wear them, some don't. Most people will wear them eventually be it through some ski resorts making it compulsory or an injury a bit too close to home.

In Sainte Foy this year my buddy popped out the trees and back on to a piste just after me not realising there was a drop and he hit his head hard enough that I was worried for his health (even wearing a helmet), had he not been wearing one I dread to think what could have happened.

Never mind - looks like we're back to Ian's 'lessons, lessons, lessons' then.

I think one of the problems with using self-help videos and books is that you can't see yourself ski, so you think you're doing whatever it says, but actually you're not. You need either an instructor, or someone like Tony's friend Skidaddle, to point out the error of your ways and help you along in the right direction.

I would never have thought the reason I was sliding sidewards downhill and not finishing my turns properly, was because I was leaning uphill, instead of downhill, until my instructor told me so, last week. I need to do lots of ski-ing exercises pretending to touch my downhill boot.

I would guess that most people try fix the surface issues, or the ones that are really obvious, rather than going to the root cause.

You mean, you reckon he's using his shoulders to start the turn, as well?

Instead of trying to say 'keep your shoulders from moving' and give an exercise to address that initially, I would maybe say, what is causing the shoulders to start the turn....
I'll be wearing one.
