Can't do that...This is the first period in about 3 years that business has been "buoyant", need to make the most of it to pay for the ski trip. (Actually that's a lie, this ski trip is paid for, but it might pay for a sneaky second trip with the boys (leaving the family of girls behind! )) |

46 sleeps :D = 6.5 weeks
But 2 weeks shut-down for Christmas leaves me 4.5 weeks to do 6 weeks worth of work ...Less sleep or less reading j2ski, what do you think? |

Not being critical of anyone what-so-ever, certainly not AlllyG. I'm happy to be on the list, it's interesting and a bit of fun.... And I guessed Stewart was OK with it too... I'm just saying, whether Stewart was being serious or a joke, it suddenly struck me were people concious that this goes out to Twitter and just how easy it is to find out a lot of personal information with the power of google. |

Just putting a "sensible hat" on for a moment...for what it's worth Stewart Dowling's comments highlight a good point. Make sure you want to be on the list.
Genuinely, I picked one person from the list and within 3 clicks I could find their home address, complete with a streetview picture (I can describe their car, their house and the plants in the front garden)....and of course I know when they will be away. In case you didn't know, every time someone comments on this thread there is a live feed to 'twitter' saying "sleeps till ski time" with a direct link to this thread for all public to see. And therefore if you have information within your 'profile', or possibly just through a 'username', anyone can find out who you are and when you will be away. Sorry to be the boring one, I'm just saying 'be careful' what you publish! |

Ordered mine on the 29th too. |

So the ski passes arrived today. -) :) :D
So easy to book in advance and arrived by post. ...And bring your passes home at the end of your trip this year, because next year you can just "re-charge" them on-line before you leave. |

It's a natural feeling I would have thought. I certainly get it. At some level not dissimilar to stage-fright or pre-race nerves. You know you can do it but the body pumps a chemical to the brain that suggests otherwise.
Add hire skis to the equation (as AllyG said) and there is a definite unknown quantity to deal with too. Hire skis tend to take a couple of days for me to get used to. I go to a different resort each year too, I wonder whether going back to the same place each year would make a difference? Before you go a quick trip to a ski centre near home helps. But I guess for most people it is just those first couple of seconds. |

Skiingcaz I guess the answer to "what's it like" depends a lot on what you/your group is like. Also, is it not dangerous to ask after you've already booked :!: I went to Chamrousse 3 or 4 years ago, it was a 'boys' trip who normally seek 'high mileage and speed'. I must be honest it didn't satisfy that requirement. I was disappointed at the time, but on reflection it has some good points. It was relatively devoid of large numbers of tour operators, more local French visitors, so lift queues were non existent. I think its one of the closest resorts to Grenoble, so good for city day trippers or quick transfers if you fly there. If you're with beginners or a young family then it's probably ideally suited. You'll be able to get around the different villages and be comfortable getting back before the lifts close. Don't recall any mountain restaurants, but "Chamrousse 1600" or "1750" are never far away. We were staying in "1700", which is fairly quiet, mainly self-catering but some of the apartments do a deal with pre-paid access to a central "buffet style" restaurant; otherwise there's a local s/market and couple of hire shops. Also an outside swimming pool. For more bars/restaurants/shops then we had a 10min walk (up the piste) to "1750". If I recall "1600" is main centre (but didn't go there other than skiing in & back out). The restaurants at "1750" did get busy in the evenings (March) so I'd recommend booking tables. You'll guess from the village names that it's not a high resort; the top's about 2200. Hopefully if long-range forecasts are true then you should be alright for Christmas. Anything more specific then just ask! "Cham...where" is often the comment I get when I mention it. [edit: sorry, just noticed, hello "newbie" :) } |
