wow Kevin, that would be fantastic if that happened. I know the snow has now all but melted in the town up here in Durjham, although I know higher up like Consett way still has quite alot of snow but have you considered a trip to Northumberland? They have a few slopes near Allenheads and since you have your own skis it may be worth a look. http://www.snowlion.freeuk.com/allenheads.html As other people have said, the skis that are used "nowadays" are much shorter and are much easier to manouvre. This year was my first time skiing on the modern skis as opposed to the longer pointy ended skis of yesteryear and they are so much easier. As well as Silksworth there is also Whickham Thorns Centre which has a dry slope (this is almost opposite the metrocentre on the other side of the road (in between Dunston and Swalwell) This is not as big as Silksworth. I think you need some sort of certificate first from them to say you can snowplough and turn ok beore you can use it on a regular basis, so you would probably need to take a few lessons (we did a family one last year and for 2 adults and 2 kids for 1 hour tuition it was about £10 each). Just another "safety tip", when you are going out to this "field" to "have a go", are you taking someone with you? ie what would you do if you broke your leg and you are in a field on your own? I know you have your mobile, but what is to say you take a hard fall, land on your mobile and break your leg. now what? anyway dont want to sound too condescending, just concerned. Also I am sure I have seen some sort of tow rope when passing through Consett, or maybe I am mistaken. Good luck with it, may it be the start of an addiction, a very healthy expensive addiction lol |

that sounds awul mfc. what bad luck for your other half. I think that is a good pact that you couldnt all have a miserable holiday. I hope you can claim on the insurance and maybe get another hol in before the season ends with the compen.
I have to be honest though, on my checklist of things to pack for a skiing holiday I do not have a slot for "things to keep me occupied in case i am hurt" lol but knowing me (my hubby calls me Dr Doom!) I maybe should add that to the list. |

last year i bought the kids age 8&10 both dare2be jackets from ebay (they were new with tags) I only paid about £15 each which is enough to pay (as I put them straight on ebay when we returned and made the money back!) they were excellent jackets but it wasnt worth keeping hold of them for this season as they would have outgrown them. They were warm enough and waterproof enough and I thought they looked lovely on the slopes with them. I wouldnt hesitate to buy. A good tip is to take them to TKmax and try them on so you know what size to get, then if you see them cheaper online you can buy with confidence that they will fit.

In Niederau itself there are 8 drag lifts, 1 gondola and 1 chair. |

I just thought I would update you on my appointment with the podiatry department and it is not good news.
I had my check and he tested my feet, made me walk etc, had a prod and a poke and said that my feet were mechanically perfect! unfortuantely my hopes of being given an insole to help my burning feet were dashed on the spot. he thinks it is either vascular or neurological so he has had to refer me back to the GP...........the mystery continues and i am still in as much pain as ever from my burning feet! |

haha Tony, you always make me laugh lol. My kids aged 8&10 both went into the red ski school last year. ON the whole they were good and my kids learned to ski, but there were deffo some negatives about them. 1. the fact that they shoved the kids into the gondola all ages between 7 and about 11 with no adult supervision and some of the unruly kids decided that seeing how far they could make the gondola swing would be a good laugh! oh how my kids laughed......NOT! 2. once they were ushered onto the tbars they were often left for about 15 mins at the top of the slope, again unsupervised, just left to their own devices waiting for the instructor to come up with the last child. Bearing in mind that we went during February half term and it was ridiculously busy so going at times outside of this then number 2 probably wouldnt be an issue. I also find that where Niderau is concerned there is a lot biased opinions and anyone who doesnt agree is shot down in flames, so I hold my breath and wait for the firing shots....... If you want to know any more info, it will be best to pm me as like I said you are not allowed to give any negatives on Neiderau on this forum. |
