I also am getting quite good at it after entering into it late in life, and dont want to go back to being a beginner again!
It must be nice to be good at both.

Thats the problem, boarding/skiing/x country/ when you dabble at all 3 you dont get to be good at any of them, just average. Hence the need to concentrate on just one.
Tony_H wrote:Rose, its just banter. Dont take it so seriously.
I actually think a really good boarder looks fantastic, especially in powder, better than a skier in fact.

There has always been this rivalry between skiers and boarders, so I just play along.

Having said that, boarders do the few things that drive me nuts when I go skiing:

1. Making that horrible loud scraping noise when they come down a hard packed or icy piste on their back edge
2. Sit over the brow of hills
3. Get in the way in entrances to lifts
4. Take up all the room on the lifts
5. Speak using stupid words that they make up

Blate

No I was'nt taking it serious, I just wondered if you had tried it and did,nt like. Actually we are trying to decide which we enjoy most and which we should concentrate more on at the moment. If its skiing then we must really invest in our own gear, cant go on forever hireing.

Why dont you like boarding Tony?, it really is fun.

It will be aided down by a nice bottle of Chateauneuf de Pape which I am particularly looking forward to, and then we can sit down and watch ski sunday which I recorded on sky plus earlier.

Can you tell I am bored?

Same here, not a fan of pork but we had pork last Sunday. Rib-eye steak to-night.

Tony_H wrote:It was kind of wierd, shimmering glows of different colours in the sky. I dont believe I got the full effect but my mate who lives up there said they do see them quite often.
The local football fanzine is known as The Northern Light.
I am told they are spectacular at the right time of year near where you went, when conditions are right, although dont ask me what that would take!

I know you need to avoid light pollution, so I never expected to see them on the slopes and fells, 100's of lights on all the time, which gave off weird pink lights in the sky. But did expect where we stayed by frozen lakes with no lights, and it was cold and clear. May-be next time

Were they as spectacular as they are claimed to be, I so desperately wanted to see them.
