But again this will be in centres of population to start.

Rural users will still be stuck with copper to the exchange for many years as the only viable broadband.

In rural Norfolk my exchange isn't on the 2013 or 2014 projection for fibre to the cabinet and 3G mobile is non existent (I use a fem to cell to get a mobile signal at home).

I get 2.5MBPS broadband with little sign of this going up in the next few years.
One problem that those on low speeds suffer is that so much content is now aimed at high speed users that we suffer doubly. Slow speed and high bandwidth needed for services. Interactive websites, streaming videos, graphics on web pages, larger documents - all contribute to emphasising the dichotomy between those on fibre and those on copper.

But - hey ho !!!!

Bit better than a 14Kbps modem which was my first internet connection.

Well ....

You live and learn - never seen one of those before.
pavelski wrote:You did forget the worst "problem" with such lifts. One skier doing ZIG ZAG out of tracks can easily de-rail tension/lift wire off rollers. Two hours of waiting.

Seen this happen once on the lift next to the one I was travelling on.

Baby lift on nursery slope and the de-railment was caused by an instructor.
He was attempting a flashy pick up of his tiddly one who had fallen off the lift and the motion of his down, sideways avoidance, grab, and lift up caused the wire to jump off the wheel.
Wonder what he said to the liftie who had to climb up and repair?

Solution to this?

As you get off chair, wave arms about, lean back and forth as a rank beginner. cross skis twice and looked terrified as you barrel into crowd. Mysteriously they will all scatter like a flock of bird in a pond.

A path is created.

Disaster is avoided.

This is a clear level 7 skill Pav.

Hmm, stick a lift across from Brides-les-baines or La Tania towards La Plagne, and join those two huge areas together. 3V + Paradiski

There were attempts to do this donkeys years ago but the links would have to go through the Parc National de la Vanoise which is a no no.
3V probably already worked out where to sneak an extra 55km of pistes in.

Wanted to write something witty in response to Ally but brain cell on strike tonight.
How about just going to one of the bigger chalet hotels?

Some have single rooms and being early you should get one (possibly, probably, maybe!).

Bound to be a few pleasant people you can hook up with both for skiing and socialising, plus you can wander around until you find some people whose company you enjoy rather than being stuck as part of a pre-formed group who you may or may not gel with.

My way (sometimes go on my own - brilliant week, last minute so cheap, with Mark Warner last Jan - great bunch of other singles to ski with) would be to phone a couple of travel agents and see what they can suggest - easier than scouring all the tour operators for single rooms.

I have used both ....
http://www.skisolutions.com/ (my favourite)
and ....
http://www.igluski.com/
other travel agents are available ....

If it were me I would phone and have a chat rather than relying on the web.

Good luck.
