the language barrier

No language barrier difficulties in Switzerland, despite the fact they have four official languages as English is the default position for virtually everyone there! All the 'announciations' on the railways and aircraft are repeated in English as well. I try a bit of German, but it's just not needed! :)

Very enjoyable week of ski-ing despite some very, very poor visibility at times.

No decent pictures to post as the white-out conditions were not conducive to photography!

Very impressed with Swiss railways as always; got me ski-ing for four hours on the day of arrival - and for four-and-half hours on the day of departure,

Would recommend Arosa to anyone who wants fun sport in a compact and well organised area.

After lots of too-ing and fro-ing, I ended up in Arosa.

Gorgeous until noon after last night's snow, then weather closed in and it's snowing again. Visibility very poor high up this afternoon.

Had a private lesson today - very good - and he showed me all the off-piste links with Lenzerheide, Tscheteren and Churwalden. If the weather picks up, might do one with guide on Thursday.

Otherwise, tons of snow - fantastic. :)

Fantastic snow, efficient transport, no queues - two fanatastic days in Switzerland. :)

Went ouch at the dinner bill last night, though, the exchange rate is doing us no favours. :(

Lovely ski-ing though. Will post some pix when I get home.
Fantastic 1970s' jacket and racing pants in the car park.

My ski mates and I often like to while away cable car and chairlift trips with a daft competition to spot skiers in 1970s/80s dayglo gear etc.

That spot would have been worth 10 points!!!

Wickers, are you on the 0600 Swiss flight from Heathrow to Zurich - or is it Basle airport for you?

Was that today (Tuesday) Ise?

I ask as the Graubunden and Bernese Oberland webcams looked pretty overcast earlier on.

Oh memories, memories of school field trips....and I went to an all boys' grammar school! :?:

Now just a few days to go - 0600 flight from Heathrow. Planned train arrives in resort at 12.09, quick check in - and on the piste by 1pm Sunday afternoon! And snow is forecast tomorrow and Thursday!
