I would :D

Seriously though, now my folks have moved back to Bonnie Scotland, I will be taking a board with me whenever I visit them in the winter.
Absolute beginner - advice please

I felt a complete prat when I started boarding, never been on the slopes of in a dome or what have you. I am not convinced that doing so would have been good for me, I hate instruction full stop. A day at a snowdome would have probably put me off for life and I would not have spent many thousands on riding holidays, equipment and clothing in the last 28 months. I would not have found a true passion. If it was for for the fact I am a tight Scotsman and paid upfront for a weeks lift pass and equipment hire I would not be doing it now.
Where to go next?

Microsoft Outlook has a handy feature these days, highlight the foreign text then right click the mouse and choose translate, it uses online translation to give an immediate impression of what you are reading. Of course it comes up with nonsense sometimes, but I have seen a marked improvement in the last 5 years. The problem translating out of German into English is the fact that it is very commonplace even in German business to create lengthy compound nouns which are constantly evoloving, so there may be no translation available, once the translator loses a word it also loses the grammatical composition of the sentence it is in, hence it also thrown by bad spelling.

This being said, very handy feature when you recieve over 60 emails a day in German on top of an equivilent amount in English.

I use the Ise method of doing my best pleasantries in German when booking, but if I have a complex point that I cant quite get down in German, I trust their English is better and use that. If they want to use a translator to ensure business, I feel quite confident they will.

Inspired by your query Mr. W. I spent the day in BB yesterday, starting with a 3 hour swim and sunbathe at the spa, followed by lying in the park listening to the orchestra (free) and then topping off with a nice dinner in the sun at a wee Italian restaurant. Was fantastic way to spend the last day of my hols, no booze and I read an entire book - Dominic Faulkner's The Longest Climb, clycling from the Dead Sea and then climbing Everest

That sounds just like my sort of day out, unfortunately I dont get to many like that these days.

The whole day cost me about 40 quid, I topped up a quite impressive tan for April and thoroughly relaxed.
One of the things I love so much about being on the continent, and especially Germany is the massive range of things you can do.

You can go raving clubbing till 5am any day of the week, and then be sitting in a stunning flower lined park, amongst fantastic architecture the next day listening to live classical music for free.

I would find it very hard to come back to the UK now!!
