It's still worth looking at Direct Travel for single trips. Just make sure that the Policy offered covers Search and Rescue.
AFAIK the Carre Neige Insurance purchased with a lift ticket in France, DOES cover repatriation.

If you are in Switzerland and rescued by Air-Glaciers in Valais, then your EHIC will cover 50% of the cost. Better be well insured for the other 50%! Most accidents are taken to Sion Hospital, where your EHIC is accepted for treatment.

Going to Austria, and used to get the cover as part of a bank account etc...

Moneysupermarket were notifying of an annual winter policy for £26. I have just changed from Direct Travel after 10 years ~ always had good service from them, but they changed their Ts&Cs so no longer fit for purpose.

I have a Travel Insurance Policy with Endsleigh, which is about £90/year, and I added Wintersports for the rest of the year for just £23 - seemed like a pretty good deal to me :-)

How many days skiing does that allow you?

I would be very interested in seeing a policy with that amount of skiing cover. Do you happen to have a link to the online policy doc?
All I could find on the Endsleigh site was the FAQ's Page, where I found this:
26. Can I extend winter sports cover beyond 17 days on an annual multi trip policy?
If you have chosen an annual multi trip policy with the winter sports option your cover will include up
to a maximum of 17 days winter sports in total during each period of insurance. Unfortunately this
cannot be extended, so if you would like winter sports cover for a longer period please opt for a single trip
policy.

Do you have a different product?

Oh - that's really interesting if that's what you've found :S When I extended it, she said it covered the whole year, so I assumed that was an unlimited number of days. Hmmm - guess that's why you should always check the small print! Will check my policy and let you know....if that is the case, I'm not very impressed because I'm using up most of that in this one trip!
