Hi all,
Just found this forum, (wish I found it 3 weeks earlier!)
I'm 36 and finally off to learn to ski for the frst time on Saturday at Les menuires. I've got some Ski Pants, googles, gloves, North face Plan B jacket (Is this any good?) Some HH base layers, hat scarf etc, Im taking some jumpers and my timberland boots for when im not learning. Is there anything Ive forgot to get?
Some shops seem intent on trying to sell me lined cargo style trousers? do I really need these for non ski days?

Can anyone give me some recommendations, or have i got most things covered

many thanks
from a very nervous beginner

When I am not skiing I wear trainers/skate shoes, jeans, tshirt and a hoody.. only a jacket if it gets seriously cold. I look daft in hats and don't bother with gloves. It is too late if it isn't any good eh!? Yeh they will be fine.. don't wear a scarf when you are skiing.. buy something like a Buff, they are only a tenner.

A helmet? Personal preference. Looks like you have most things covered to me but some folks with more 'experience' than me might be able to help you out. Don't be nervous and just enjoy it, dude!

Hire a helmet, the most important bit of ski equipment you'll ever own is that 6 inches between your ears.

Sounds as if you've got all of the essentials. Have a fabulous time. I would be envious but I'll be in Les Arcs!

Sounds like you're all set! I was in Les Menuires over Christmas and the snow was fantastic. It can get darn cold on the lifts in the wind so if you have something to cover your face you might like it. Also on the last day it was freakin cold and i wished I had some long johns (are they on your list).

I'd be jealous if I wasn't going to Scheffau on Saturday.

There's a wonderful blue run down to St Martin, ask your instructor to take you.

no, you can always use the HH base layers under normal trousers. Sounds like you're all set, the buff is a great idea though.

I would be jealous but I live here (just keeping with the theme) :D ) )

I can't believe you all missed this! Tony wouldn't have

Sorry James!

I'd recommend decent ski socks and in our family we wear silk inner gloves but that's personal preference.

I'd be jealous but I'm off to niederau in 13 days...

you'll love it! enjoy yourself
