The Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors to present at the Interski Congress in St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria, 15-22 January 2011

The Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors (IASI) is presenting a lecture at the forthcoming Interski Congress in St. Anton, Austria, January 2011. The lecture will be presented by David Murrie a former professor of sports biomechanics in the United States, an IASI member and very experienced ski teacher. This will be the first time that Ireland have delivered at Interski and marks a huge step forward for Ireland's recognition as a snowsports teaching nation.

The Interski Congress takes place every four years and is in effect the "snowsport instructor's Olympics". Snowsports teaching nations from around the world come together to exchange ideas on the latest in ski & snowboard technique and teaching methodologies. The theme for the forthcoming congress is "Do it, Feel it, Be it".

IASI's delegation for Interski includes; Derek Tate, IASI's Head of Training and Director of BASS Chamonix (a small elite ski school in Chamonix, France), Pete Gillespie, IASI Board Member and Director at The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead (an indoor skiing facility in the UK and one of IASI's course venues) and David Murrie, a graduate of Loughborough University with a background in athletics, skiing, coach education and sports science.

Commenting on the forthcoming congress, IASI's Head of Training Derek Tate says, "this will be the 2nd time that I have attended an Interski Congress, the last time being Norway in 1999, but this will be a even greater occasion for Ireland and IASI as we will have a active role in the congress with Dave Murrie presenting to the
assembled snowsports nations of the world. This will do an enormous amount for our credibility in the world of snowsports teaching and help to gain better recognition for IASI qualified snowsports instructors. Attending and being actively involved in these big International meetings is essential as it helps employment opportunities for our members around the world".

The Congress also provides an opportunity for member nations to demonstrate their skills with the bigger nations sending demonstration teams and delivering on snow workshops.
