Ally - have you asked the ski school whether they'll be taking you into the Meribel valley?
Have to say that it'd be a great shame to go to the 3V and only ski Courchevel.

Dorset Boy,
Yes I have asked them. I have phoned esf about several things, and that was one of my many questions. Unfortunately the answer was that it depends on the teacher, and the weather, and they advised buying the Courchevel one and then adding on as necessary.

2 years ago we had esf lessons in Val Thorens and we had one marvellous day where we skied all 3 valleys with our instructor, including going up Mont Vallon just because he liked the view and the long red run down. I'd really like to do that again, but they don't usually offer it - it was more of a special thing that he agreed to do for us and it was a full day trip.

How long do you have between your morning and afternoon lessons, and how much of that time will you ski? What other free skiing time will you have?
It used to take about 20 minutes to get up to the top of Saulire on the bubbles from Mottaret and Meribel Centre.

Dorset Boy,
It's very kind of you to try and find me enough time to get out of Courchevel at lunch time, but I think I'm going to be pretty busy!

I'm doing slalom lessons in English from 9.30-11.30 with esf 1550. Their meeting point is at 1850. Then I'm meeting up with my daughter's cousin, the one who's not so good at ski-ing, after her lesson, and ski-ing down with her to our apartment in 1550 for lunch. I'm collapsing with exhaustion at lunchtime, and eating and drinking lots of tea, and doing French revision.

Then, my daughter will arrive after her lessons which finish at 13-40, so that she can ski with her cousin after she's had some lunch, and I'm heading off for my afternoon lessons back up in 1850 which start at 14-15 and will be in French doing the 'ski pleasure' class which I think means ski-ing around and having fun.

So, I think I have a pretty full program already!

I suspect therefore than you might not get out of the Courchevel valley more than once, so a C'vel valley pass might be your best option.

Thanks Dorset Boy, that was kind of what I thought.

I suppose I have the option to upgrade the whole pass for the week if esf tell me something different when we get there.

Well, that's the plan anyway, Snowbandit. I have managed to do two lots of lessons for the last couple of years, and get back to the apartment for lunch, but I haven't tried slalom before. If it's too exhausting/difficult for me I will switch back to ski pleasure during the morning.

I'm not that fit yet, but I'm working on it :D
