Quads and core muscles are the ones to work on to help with "fitness". Funny this topic was raised, as I started my "skiing fitness campaign" 3 weeks ago, early September.
100 crunches, 25 leg lifts of 4 different sorts, and 50 each of 2 different type of upper body/abdominal stretches.
I also find keeping out of the pub as often helps.

Tony, I'm a natural athlete and I can't be bothered with doing all those crunches unless they are covered in chocolate
You know, I just KNEW you would turn that into a Crunchie somehow!
I know predictable
Thats fine caron if your slim but when you're a fat bloke its extremely hard work
Do I remember rightly that you were losing weight on a diet?
It is still dropping off by a pound a month another stone to go before I reach the target of 12st 7lb

I see a lot of recommendations for yoga and, this year, the ski and snowboard mag has got very basic yoga moves each month. Fortunately for me, it's my exercise of choice, I also hate gyms.
My other exercise is cycling. If you really want to push yourself, cycle in the highest gear and stay seated going up hills. It bloody kills  but works the right muscles.
