Good question Tony, and from my point of view timely, since I finished last season with gaffa tape holding the thumb sections together, rather like Pavel's. These gloves lasted 5/6 years, mebbe 30 weeks skiing. That works out at a £/year. Outrageous.

One of my criteria is that my gloves form part of my safety set-up. I have one dodgy knee that will occasionally spike, and to resolve, reliable gloves and sticks are required.

I have bought a £19 pair from TK, just as spares, since my sons have thieved my other spares. The new pair would be useless for constant use.

So for a specification:

1) Gloves need to be waterproof, and to be breathable material.

2) Stitching must be double or treble.

3) Next, the palm area must be durable, and non-slip. So preferably patterned leather or HD man made patterned material.

4) For control, gloves not mitts.

5) A wrist closer strap, normally this is pull and velcro.

6) Minimum 2"-3" coverage beyond the wrist, and over the cuff of your jacket. So....when you are choosing gloves, wear your ski jacket.

7) If you don't have a LH arm/chest pocket in your ski jacket, or wear a ski swatch, then a LH glove pocket for the lift pass.

8) Insulation, I have always found that thinsulate is fine.

9) Red.

10) Never look at the brand, if it meets the specification. There is no reason to.

11) No more than £30, top whack. Anything above this signifies rich daddy. If you pay more than this, it just encourages the bu..ers to put up prices. Vive la revolution.

12) No little clippy bits that fasten the glovy things together. If you insist on this, then get pink gloves.

that rather proves what bandit suggested, Hestra (pro range only) make far better value gloves, my gloves have more days than that and are still in perfect condition without any tape on them, I keep breaking the toggles and having to put new ones on but the gloves are still perfect. bandit has the newer model to me which are slightly nicer and only 62 quid according to google :

otherwise I use some Marmot alpine climbing gloves when I need to handle ropes or climbing gear and pop some Haglöf shell mittens over the top if it's a bit windy.

ise I'm gutted, the price of these gloves has come down

I think this is my model tho...

http://www.skimarket.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=370 even cheaper!

I purchased the Mens' model to get decent sizing :D

I'm wondering if I can wash my fleece inners, since I got quite a bit of blood in one glove from splitting a knuckle in Zermatt. I have taken the fleece insert out without any problems, and it simply velcros' back in place afterwards.
These are tough, well made gloves.

ise How are you mashing your toggles? I'm almost afraid to ask

Tino If you are losing your gloves, then idiot strings are the way forward, I use them, so I must be one )

About to start 4th season with a pair of middle of the range Spyders,we tend to go over the states every 18 month so the price was quite decent in comparison to buying here.

My criteria durable and warmth.

I still have a pair of thinsulate sport £10 my first pair however if I recall my fingers ust to get very numb resigned to dog walking duties now.

Well, if you have ever seen a lonely glove underneath a chairlift line, and thought fancy dropping that, what an *****

Hestra call them handcuffs, a much more fashionable title and ever so slightly mysterious )

I have just thrown my Trespass gloves out, somewhat reluctantly as they have been an outstanding buy at £20 4 years ago. However, when the fingers are coming apart and there are small rips in them, you know its time to get rid.
I had bought some North Face HyVentn gloves off Ebay, half price at £20, but came across a far better pair of Reusch gloves whilst in Scotland last week, and these were marked down at £20 so I bought them, and my son will be using the North Face ones this season.
The Reusch gloves seem to have just about everything covered according to the labels attached to them, and they come with inner gloves too which arent just a cheap fleecy pair either. I believe these retail at around £85 normally, so I assume its not just a name you are paying for with these. They are Primaloft and come from the Triple X range, which I believe may be last years models, but I really dont care about that. The palms are calfskin. Black and Grey, with a little red wording on them too, so perfect in terms of colourways for me.
I am slightly disappointed that there is no rubber bit to use as a windscreen wiper, but other than that, I am well pleased with them.
