Thank you, that's kind. I'm now searching between resorts. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to ski down to brides les bains or do you have to get a lift at les allures? The pistes maps I can get from google don have any marked pistes down to BLB. Thanks

Let's get this straight both areas are awesome. Both say they have 650kms of runs. Both claim to be the biggest linked ski areas...blah blah blah...

The real difference is in the price. In Morzine, Avoriaz et al you are looking at 5euros a pint. In the likes of Meribel, Coucheval etc you are looking upwards of 7euros (more often 10euros) a pint.

This price difference reflects on all things from accommodation to lift pass and not just the beer...

Go to both ski areas but I feel in the Portes du Soleil you'll find a wider selection of different and interesting runs (more tree line skiing), arguably more picturesque scenery, cute little mountain villages (ok not Avoriaz)and VALUE FOR MONEY!

My vote goes to the Portes du Soleil!!

3V any time for the skiing although the atmosphere of Morzine town is perhaps better.

Much of the PDS is lower down hence the tree lined runs. Crowded in many areas particularly around Avoriaz. And a significant number of the runs are narrower which is a problem when they are crowded with novices.

Been to both but I'm not overwhelmed with the desire to visit the PDS again but would jump at the chance to ski the 3Vs again.

I've not done PDS, but I have done 3v 3 times. I love the place, and miss it when I go somewhere else. I'm not into Courchevel, it's ruined by naff cash that is tasteless, but the villages, sheer scope of runs and ability to get around easy make it a fantastic place to visit.
