Been a while ; but I see everything is as it was in the past. Must be the first cold night of the pending fall that brought me back here !

In Eastern Canada we make ice our friend. We respect ice but we don't let ice rule us. We keep edges sharp and just cross it without panic or fear ... and also without making any sudden changes in direction. I'm likely more comfortable on ice than on powder!

Mike,
Are those nice Atomics skis you have in the picture ?

Perhaps you are due for some serious Fischer skis ?

They are great on ice,,,

Hello Pavel,

Mais oui ... both sets are Atomics and indeed are very nice skis. A very kind friend set my wife and me up with them. We've had many very enjoyable hours on these skis. They have helped us to enjoy skiing and understand the love of skiing so many people enjoy. Can't wait for the season to get going and for a trip to SR. This will likely make this the most enjoyable ski year to date for us. Certainly will be a new experience.

The ski quiver always has room for company... ... especially skis that are great on ice !!

But one must earn and prove worthiness of the additions to the collection.

Mike :)

...ah yes, Pavel. But then there is the alternative view :!:.

Is it really worth putting up with this difficult and unwelcoming slope? Is there another, more, welcoming slope waiting for me over the next ridge. Perhaps a lonely slope with nice soft snow that is waiting to welcome me. would I be happier on this other slope from now on or even for just a brief interlude while I wait for the icy slope to thaw out a little

Wanderer,
Yes of course there is always other avenues, other points of view!

I think all slopes are great. All offer challenges. That is what skiing on some is "interesting" ! You never what will come up! A nice and easy section,,,,then fast fast steep icy parts and so on !
That is why you must concentrate at all times while skiing !

For me no slope in unwelcoming. You just have to find the way to ski it !

Yes nice soft snow is great,,,but imagine how you feel once you have mastered that icy section !

Wanderer, try all sorts of slopes. It will make you appreciate the special ones !

Will be thinking of you on White Heat this winter !!!

I was speaking to another skier friend about this site and this topic,,,,ice !

He gave me an interesting analogy about ice !

When you are at bar and given a drink with ice in glass !

What do you do?

Try to "crush it" ?
Try to force it down ?

No!

You let it "sooth your mouth",,,you let it smooth out in the drink !

So it is with skiing on it !

It your skis "smooth" out the ice with soft edges !

Do not force down your edges on ice ! Sooth the ice with soft edges !

Let it become your friend of pleasure rather than enemy !

Great analogy !

You all own my a drink now,,,if we ever meet on slopes !

Respectfully,
Pavel

Too true, I pull the ice out with my fingers and dump it in the ash tray. You can never be certain about Bar hygiene :D

Bandit,

Problem is,,Bandit the harm is already done !

Those germs have already multiplied !

The good news is,,,the alcohol probably killed those budding germs.

Mind you,,I did get an infection from ice on slope. A small cut became infected while I was racking a FIS race course. Seems the "water" used on the course was from "sewage system" ! ie recycled water !

Few skiers know that many of the snow guns use "recycled" water straight from "homes" !

Another reason why not to fall on slope ice ! hughhhhhhh !

As a "world traveller" Bandit I am sure you never allow ice to be placed in your drinks in tropical countries or "developing country" resorts!
