Nelly, you read correctly, that the Charter overnight Disco carriage train service is off the rails, apparently not economical.
Eurostar are running day and overnight services to the Tarentaise (if you fancy sitting up all night).
Oooh er   I suppose you could say that they were up all night too
Not much fun for you with no sleep. I did the old Snow Train a few times, and could never sleep, and travelling alone, it was always pot luck who I ended up sharing the sleeper 6 with. I can't ski well on no sleep either. Some folks were friendly though.
I do apologise, I didn't think Mrs W and I was making that much noise
I had a similarly uncomfortable experience on the Eurostar ski train when I went to VT. It was hellishly uncomfortable and I would never do it again. Ever.

I heard a rumour that the Snowtrain (the one with the disco carriage) is not running this year. I read this on the WTSAS website so it must be quite reliable information, however I notice that the TOs are still offering it as an option to travel - :?:

We did the Eurostar a couple of years ago and managed to sleep for about 45 minutes in total, the evening entertainment was provided by a couple who had just met trying to fornicate in the chairs opposite

Well,
We are going out to Moutiers (3 Valleys) on the day train from St Pancras, and back on the night train Feb half term. We did the same last year. As far as I know you have to book it direct because all the tour operators seem to only allow you to book day/day or night/night.
It was very uncomfortable sitting up all night, but there is the usual buffet car you can walk to and talk to the bar staff in the middle of the night. And you do get the extra Saturday on the slopes when there's hardly anyone else there. It was no worse than a long aeroplane flight over night.
And straight after that we have another 5 hour train journey during the day to get back home in time for school on Monday. It is a good thing I like trains!
I don't know why they cancelled the snow train, because there was a huge rush to get the half-term tickets. It seems lots of people want to go on the train now. Coming back last year was very strange. They didn't check the passports at Moutiers, but they put a man on the train who checked them later. The more experienced travellers had all brought pillows and blankets etc. and they went to sleep.

I find the odd glass or two (or three) of wine helps with the sleeping too. We are probably going to Val on the Eurostar in Jan, it's a 30 min transfer to resort from Bourg which is what I like, I'm too excited to sleep on the way there anyway, I did get more sleep on the way back, I was pretty knackered by then.
Shame the Snowtrain has had it's day, I did that once and ended up in a couchette with 4 other blokes (plus hubby) who managed to come back from the disco carriage with a traffic cone and spent the rest of the night farting.
