Am I mad to be considering Soldeu for new year?

I'm attracted to Soldeu for a week over new year and to celebrate the wife's big 30 (also on Dec 31). It sounds like it would be good fun and the few people I've spoken to who have been there loved it.
However, I understand that snow at that time of year is far from reliable. I'm tempted to take the chance though. I would be quite dissapointed if I couldn't ski, however, we are both beginners so could cope quite happily with limited runs. Would I be stupid to take the risk??
Also, can anyone suggest a longer forecast than the usual 7 days or is that about the best I'm going find on the web?
Thanks for any help / opinions

There already seems to be a good base of snow at the moment and the temperature is much colder than last year so snow cover shouldnt be a problem this year.(Dont take my word for it, check out the conditions!!)
I have many friends in Soldeu and visit at least once a year. I love it.
Where were you thinking of staying?

Possible accommodation would be Hotel Soldeu Maistre or, if pushing the boat out a little, the Sporthotel.

Dont know if its your bag, but one of the things I like about Soldeu is the live music. You will find acoustic sessions and bands in most of the bars both apres ski and later on(if the body is up to it).
I like the vibrancy of Austrian apres ski, but you cant beat live music!!!

Most of the main French resorts still have not got any snow and are supposed to be opening in the next few weeks.
I have been lucky enough to ski all over the world and I rate it as the best Beginers resort anywhere and the ski school is second to none nearly all Basi and Canadian Ski instructors.
Sport is a great Hotel and almost any of the 4 or 5 main hotels in the main village are good.
Im hopefully their Christmas week with the Girlfriend and its her first time.
Have fun you wont regret it.
