And that is my whole point , I would just like to know the speed I ski. I don't think I ski anywhere near to 50 mph,
but I would just like to know.
My Birthdays coming up and I've been collecting brownie points for the last few weeks if I ask the trouble and strife nicely I might just get my wish.

They did a speed test on Snowfix.tv last season, and sent an AVERAGE skier down an AVERAGE run in Chamonix, skiing reasonably quickly but carving turns. The AVERAGE speed was just over 50 kmh, which is just over 30 mph. It doesnt sound fast, but I bet a lot of people think they are skiing a lot faster than that. Its fast enough to do some damage though.

That sounds a lot like the experience I had a couple of years back when a complete numpty took me out at speed.

I still don't know how I got up from it, let alone with nothing more than a bruise or two.

You were fortunate to get up with bruises. My collarbone took 16 weeks to knit and I still have joint displacement almost 4 years later. The attending Gendarme invited me to press charges for assault, which I judged to be a route not worth following.

It's safer off piste, less numptys, it's you and the hill....unless the numptys set off a slide above you :roll:

I dare say you're right Bandit.

There are certain pistes I have vowed to not set ski on again, for instance the one on which TonyH narrowly escaped having his legs smashed last season, simply due to the amount of traffic and skiers not showing enough thought for those around them.

I'm sure it wouldn't have been worth pressing charges, as you say, but OMG!!!

Well it looks like GPS unit is on it's way, thanks to my darling wife's great birthday idea. This thread looks like it could run and run, well at least until March.

Ah yes, the incident on that run down the back of the Horberg. I am still not sure how you escaped relatviely unscathed from that, he hit you at some speed, and had the audacity to tell you that YOU had broken HIS pole. Steve's daughter Charley was egging you on to hit him!!!!
But its not funny.

And that incident on red 16 in Mayrhofen when I escaped with a broken ski pole and a wrenched shoulder could have been horrific. The bloke who nearly took me out was doing a ridiculous speed on a packed run which had moguled up at the end of the day with only patches of packed ice between the bumps. 3 inches to the right and I would have probably never skied again. That was the same piste on which I collided with that lady on Xmas Day the year before if you remember. 2 totally different incidents, but both because these people were out of control or out of their depth on a difficult red run, which possibly should be classified as black.

never heard that but that's exactly what I would expect, if you were doing 40mph that would be pretty fast.
