To be honest it doesn't look like it will snow for at least another week or so. So Snowmageddon on the 27th is unlikely this year - last year there were talks about snow arriving around Boxing day starting from the second week, now there are hopes it will start snowing around New Years, but no-one sounds convincing. Very warm and no change in sight. I know it can change quickly, but I wonder where the change will come from. Oh, well, at least skied 7 days from the start of the season on relatively quite and good pistes. Slopes are getting getting busy now so I think I can leave the slopes to visitors hungry for some turns and wait for the snow. Couldn't even force myself to get into gear yesterday so went to Christmas markets in Montreux. Looks like this will be my main pastime during at least the first week of my 3-week holiday. Hitting a swimming pool later today. Big BBQ tomorrow - in December! No skiing for me, conditions are not worth wrecking my knees further - I skied better in late April. Even if it doesn't snow at all, the first week of January I can have slopes mostly to myself, so will ski then. And since it's Christmas, bad snow means less arguments on the day who will stay behind to peel vegetables etc. when others are skiing. So bright sunshine and lot of time!

Cancelled my week in Ski Amade are area of Austria yesterday as the forecast for the next 9 days is too mild even for decent snow cannon action. Fortunately the owner of the apartment
i was renting has let me move my booking to the February half term week, the only loss is £140
for the tunnel so happy with that. Seems like the season gets later year by year.

Three feet of snow in 24 hours at Heavenly; seems like the California drought is coming to an end!

Must say, I had 5 days great skiing last week in the Kitzbuehler Alpen. Obviously it was nearly all artificial snow, but they were producing it overnight by the shedload, and the daytime weather was that fabulous combination of cold and sunny. No complaints from any in our group, except the odd one who was hoping to go off piste.

Starting to get a bit nervous about our trip to Tignes in mid Jan. Going to need a big dump to sort things out.

Andy, Tignes should be OK!

I just checked the 16 day Alps forecast, and it seems to offer little. That has determined my travel, in that I will hire a car from Munich, rather than travel by rail.

My only other decision, in resort, dependant on prevailing conditions, is to consider the Tirol conditions, and decide between a Kitzbuhel area or a Tirol card.

My room cost is fairly modest, less than £20/night, hence should I choose to stay over at a distant resort, it is a low financial hit. That is just a decision of travel time/cost/snow conditions/new area opportunity.

Most areas have good machine snow conditions, although it must be said that a fall of a few degrees in ground temp would make their job easier.

Get your snow dance on... you might get lucky...

Increasing indications from the weather models that the current weather pattern is going to break around New Year, with colder air pushing in from the East and precipitation coming with it (and persisting)... cross everything! 8)

It might stay milder than average for a while but you're not going to be worried by that aspect in Tignes...
