here you are...just 11km from Obertuern and about an hour from Salzburg and part of the Lungau region ...a collection of small villages ...seems ideal for a school trip

I have exactly the same problem and before I went skiing the second time I invested in a pair of custom moulded foot-beds ...no problems with them since...they raised my arches and thus repositioned the ankle stopping it rubbing on the boot..when some nice kind person borrowed my ski bag (and boots) last year I had to rent a pair and was in agony ....even though I tried at least 4 different boots
I feel that if you depend on the hire shops to find a comfortable pair you will be disappointed...I was..and the cost of a pair of foot-beds is about the cost of 2 lunches in the Alps! Sued..why should a foot-bed give you more strain on the hips ...your flat arches put a strain on the body already |

I go to the gym about 5 /6 days a week and try to keep relatively fit ...and I am "just a tad" overweight..
My experience after a 7 days intensive skiing (about 40-50k a day on piste)is that for the first 4/5 days that my quads started to scream after about 4 hours but quietened at the end of the holiday when they got used to it... I thought I had been doing lots of exercises for this but obviously not enough...I went to see one of the PT s at the gym this week and he recommended partial quick squats..more like dips...lots of them..so I now do 4-5 sets of 30 squats standing on a Bosu (wobbly half ball) with a weight across my back ...seems to mirror the skiing experience |

Having skied in three areas last week I have found from my travels that the big resorts are not my preferred place to be ...the two I have been to have been a bit impersonal and, compared to the smaller Austrian resorts,a bit unloved...the lift companies do not seem to wish to invest the cash in the lift system or the personnel . I much preferred my day in the smaller more personal and MUCH cheaper resort..the lifts weren't as good but the runs were well groomed and the pass didn't need a second mortgage...and they are all 20 minutes easy drive apart
Grand massif..Port du Sollialle...Pras de Lys The best bet is to have a car and try stay in a central point and try them all in the same week |
