I was looking on the 19th dec, leaving 20th and you could fly from Bristol (my local airport) to grenoble and get a catered chalet in la plagne or les deux alpes for £145! That will take some beating! They also had a holiday to tignes i think leaving belfast for the same price!

At the mo there is c.£300 catered chalet Alpe D'huez and Les deux alpes leaving this saturday, but that price will drop nearer the time!

Wait and be flexible

If you like what you have and it does the job then I would call it decent.

With most of the helmets on sale you wont get a 'safer' helmet by spending more money. All helmets should have a 'CE' mark or European safety mark. When you pay for a more expensive helmet you might get more comfort, more ventilation etc but generally not more safety in my opinion.

If you pay a lot more for a carbon fibre helmet then you will get a lighter and longer lasting helmet - it wont need replacing after a hard knock the way plastic helmets should be replaced, but they aren't cheap!

As for blades - I don't really get where the fun is, but as said above 'each to their own' )

I'm guessing a seventeen week skier has had the helmet for say seventeen weeks, there would be a life span
to the helmet depending on use and damage, I'm also assuming that the "helmet" would have had reasonable wear and tear so my assumption was based on the information given. What someone would pay for a product would depend on the cash available to spend at the time not everybody can afford top of the range, Helmets, your correct, you should only buy with the safety mark, and blades give them a go neiltoo you might find them fun.
As for do you value your head that is a basic decision you have to make, I don't value mine if I did I would wear a helmet.

Here, Here Rose. I must check out the ebay forum

It's a shame that the BBC thinks the ski racing season starts in January, and Channel4 had not cancelled their skiing programming  Then we could watch it.

I love the quotes in the IHT article. Reads like a lot of excuses from the US skiers, and some of the Europeans. My fave quote however.....

Naturally, Italian skiers said their home course suited them perfectly.

I have skied the Stelvio course, as I stayed in Bormio for a couple of weeks, I skied it daily. It was icy then as well, and there was an adverse cambered section fairly high up.

I too have skied the stelvio well at least the parts that were open they seem to close parts and detour you to protect parts of the course, but a great downhill run.

bald-eagleman wrote:Newby to the forum but agree that Zakopane is really good. Its in a bowl and surrounded by slopes on all sides. The runs are limited though unless you go to Bialka and Kaprowky Weich. Went with Sunshine World last year who take you to different areas each day......going again this Feb half term. Yippee

I guess the attraction would be the low prices but looking at the piste map there is very limited skiing, but I guess if your in the the area it might be worth a try, what am I saying I must be honest there's not a cat in hell's chance of me going to Zakopane, but still each to his own have a great hol's.
Tapps wrote:Hi everyone,
I have done about 17 weeks skiing now and i am interested in buying some decent gear. i was wondering if anyone could tell me if buying a decent helmet (around £50) is worth the money, or should i stick with my cheap £15 one? If I was to buy one, does anyone recommend any and if so know where to buy one, or would it be easier buying them at a resort?
I was also thinking about getting some blades as i enjoy them and can use them quite well, again is this worth the money or should i just rent them from time to time?

Tapps )
