Learn to Ski Videos

stevesmoothie wrote:Ok so here's a weird question.

I'm going skiing in a week with my brother in law. Being blokes of the same age the banter has started as to who's the best. We both have the same number of weeks under our belts but I have been more recently.

I want to make sure I'm slightly better than him before I go. I know that you can't learn to ski from a video but are there any out there I could watch to at least get some tips from, just to give me the edge ;-)

I need to just perfect the ole parallel turn. At the moment I'm still doing the mini snow plough when it gets a bit steep on the reds.

Any tips bearing in mind I won't be able to practice other than in my head.

Cheers!

I swear by them, when I was younger I used to view a channel four video to reactivate my mind into ski technique and it worked, now with a bit more experience I guess it is now embedded into my thick scull, but when things ain't going quite right I still use the video in my mind to put the faults right and yes it works.
I remember buying the video in "our Price" thats how long ago it was.I think they were taken over by Virgin.
LGb-Lift passes
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 2 Replies
I have been going now to LGb for the last five years and have always booked my lift passes on line and collected them from the LGb tourist office on arrival, this has mainly been for convenience and to avoid queues. This year they have gone over to the automated hands free system, and low and behold I cannot book on line as the booking system is not up and running yet. Now my question is about the reasons for this as I cannot seem to get any sense out of the lift company or the tourist office, I have always been happy with the service received from the tourist office but this year two weeks to answer an email is for me unacceptable.
I guess this question is aimed at the local guys or maybe admin who I know has been out there this year.

2010 prices

Too expensive, but with the pound still dropping it could be the cheaper option. The room supplements have always put me off of going over the pond with the TO's. If and when I go it will be DIY.

It's hyvent which is the North Face fabric, really most claims for waterproof and breathable are overblown, at the very least it never lasts more than a few days, so some manufacturers have lines using non-Goretex fabrics which often work as well and work out cheaper.

ise you got me going again, have been on to the NFace web site for this.....

What recommendation would you make for this jacket, as to me it sounds ok for a light weight jacket ??? 8)

Here we go I am going to have my two pennies worth, I would think straight skis should be able to carve as it not just down to the ski but the skill of the skier, the side cut on skis today just surly take carving to the next level. :D

hugh_b wrote:Hi guy's, i probably should have asked before i bought this but it was a now or never deal, i have just bought one for a very very good price as I'm after some new kit and tk maxx had sold anything nice in my size.

Basically is this jacket any good? I just want something warm, waterproof and breathable that's going to last. I currently have a wedze jacket which cost £100, it was really good last season for boarding, very warm and kept me dry in some nasty snow storms!
I hope you can give me a good report on what i have bought as i struggled to find reviews beforehand.

Thanks-Hugh

According to this it's waterproof and breathable.

Here's a bit more info .......

The Decagon Jacket is a fully waterproof ski and snowboard jacket prefect for anyone who prefers a lighter weight jacket with no insulation. This means it's also a very versatile piece as you can layer up underneath on colder days and just wear it over a baselayer on warmer ones. Two Layer Hyvent is 100% waterproof and very breathable, four outer pockets provide plenty of storage options and a protective collar, excellent hood, and a snowskirt seal out powder.

A touch more from Amazon.......

Product Description
The North face Decagon Jacket for women is a versatile and comfortable waterproof, breathable jacket that's a popular choice for powder days. Keeping you warm whilst on the chairlift, the Decagon will also help prevents overheating on warmer days on the mountain. The Decagon is also fully seam sealed, has an adjustable drop hood, and is fitted with a range of purpose built pockets. This jacket features Hyvent fabric - a superior waterproof, breathable technology utilising a PU coating that consists of a tri-component multilayer formula for waterproof protection, moisture permeability, and durability. It has been lab and athlete tested to ensure the best possible function, whilst also maintaining a comfortable level of breathability.

It seems a light weight jacket which is ok just buy it big enough to allow for some layers 8)
Freestyle Skiing?

baillie353 wrote:Good evening ladies and gentlemen.. First off, Happy new year to you all.

Now, I am new to these forums and this is my first post.
I've been skiing since January 2008 - I was given a surprise 18th birthday present and it was a skiing trip to Vamorel in France - Now, this was the time of my life.. So much fun and it's incredible how much peace skiing can bring to the human mind. Skiing is now my most favourite thing in the world.

I live in Glasgow and for those of you who know about it, I can easily travel to the indoor ski slopes at Braehead - Xscape, so for a while now I've been going here..
Since then I've slowly built a love towards freestyle skiing - I get such a rush from trying it..
I was just generally wondering if there are any freestyle skiers on here? Not even professional, just anyone who likes to try the odd kicker or box/rail slide or even those who've stomped their first 180!
I'd like to talk with them to get an idea of how they got better!

I've recently bought my own equipment - Dynastar Nothing But Trouble skis (Twintips) and a pair of Salomon SPK Kaos boots. Great gear, love it.

Cheers, take care and happy skiing!

I think you are doing extremely well to have only been skiing since 2008 and you're talking " kickers & Box/rails
" what ever they are, so well done. 8)
