we'd already done the isebar puns
We’d planned to build some apartments on the land in front of the chalet but unfortunately we’ve been it by the credit crunch and had to scale down a bit.

We’ve retained east European builder Isesky Notverygoodski who’s pictured here botching up the show igloo.

Bella Vouarda, Saint-Luc

The Bella Vouarda is a pass between the Forcletta and the Pointes de Nava which form a ridge running down to the Hotel Weisshorn, I’ve also been over here in the spring as an extended version of the classic traverse from Saint-Luc to Zinal. As a snow shoe route this was pretty long, over 17km and nearly 1000m of ascent and probably not the easy stroll people generally associate with snow shoeing. It was nearly dark as we returned to Saint-Luc and another few minutes and we'd have been using head torches. Still, a great day out in the high mountains and an escape from the holiday crowds on the slopes.

Some more on my blog of course : http://snowslider.net/2008/12/30/bella-vouarda-saint-luc/

I saw a woman the other day on some Salomon Equipe 9000 2S at around 2m, it's holiday time, you always get people turning up with the most bizarre kit

That's not possible without someone calling up each station individually and asking unfortunately. Regional forecasts are produced, like this one for around here :

http://www.slf.ch/avalanche/pdf/rbuvs_fr_c.pdf

And you might think you can identify that a particular station lies in a particular zone but in fact stations can upgrade or downgrade local status based on their own assessment.

But, more to the point, if you're skiing off-piste, touring etc, you need to have read the full report yourself and understood it, anyone that skis off -piste just knowing the risk number is foolish.

There's a collation of that data for my local area here :

I can't agree with that, fleece is an odd fabric, most of the top name stuff use fabrics and weaves that are still proprietary. It's like Goretex in that respect. The TNF Flight fleece I have (and live in) is a radically different garment from a 20 quid fleece that Aldi knock out. When you get to that blurry line between fleece and soft shell the differences become much more pronounced.
