Dry slopes
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 21 Replies
I had no plans to ever go to a dry slope, not impressed some 24years ago, but as luck would have it my boy joined Beavers (pre-Cub Scout group) and they have a session in two weeks for him to get his skiing badge.

Any tips to remember coming from snow to dry slopes? I seem to recall it being painful and muddy.

I hired a car from Chambery last year - very easy airport IMO.

That was after iirc 57cm snowfall, in Megeve - the run is a red, Belle de Mont D'Arbois.

If it had been groomed, or my technique up to the powder, it would have been a lot of fun. The following section looks like its off a cliff until you hit the edge.

Thanks for the tip - ill try that too.

As above I'm on-piste there.

This isn't a great photo but hopefully you can see the, umm, variable condition of the piste.

These were the skis. I was thinking some sort of off-piste ski might be better at the time.

'as the skis rise out of the snow'

Thanks for the responses, but Ive got to say I had to physically yank the skis up to be able to make a turn, otherwise I disappeared into the snow!

I see what you mean though.

Hi,

I'm looking for tips on technique in deep snow?

I did my first red in December, and last weekend found the well groomed blues a little uninspiring. So I was given directions to a red run, but as I joined I realised it hadn't been groomed at all and three feet deep of broken snow was too much for me to handle.

Is there any particular trick to making turns, or is it simply normal technique, strength, practice and patience?
