I do have one more question: I wear spectacles and have a pair of Reactolites for outdoor/indoor wear. Will these be fine on the slopes or will I need goggles on top, which now begs the second question: Can you actually wear goggles over spectacles????

Well, thanks for all your help!
I tried to book Cervinia but couldn't get any flights out of Bristol. I have, however, now booked a week's holiday in the Hotel Madeleine at Obergurgl. As you know it's a high resort and hopefully will suit us perfectly! And, we'll be able to fly from Cardiff which is 10 mins away from my house in Barry. The downside being we're flying at 14.30 on the Saturday and I'll now miss the Wales v Italy rugby match. Don't bother to enquire, my wife will have a choice of people to join her at the game!!!!!!!!! |

OK, I'm getting there slowly.
I've now directed my thoughts on either Cervinia or Selva. If anyone's been there what are your thoughts and which hotels would you recommend? Is it really cheaper getting a Bed and Breakfast when you consider all the meals you have to pay for compared with a half board hotel? I would consider Austria if I knew the snow would be there from 21st March. Lastly, I can actually fly with Easjet from Bristol to Turin that weekend for £66 for two people with luggage. Do you think it's worth doing this and trying to find a hotel vacancy on the internet? I would have thought it would be cheaper to organise lift passes, equipment, tuition at the resort rather than with the tour operater but there again I have to get from the airport to the resort. What do you think? I 'm beginning also to realise that my preferred hostelries are already booked!!!! |

I've picked up a few other brochures now apart from Crystal. Thomson and First Choice actually seem cheaper.
Do you have any views on either Bardonecchia, Sestriere or Pila as I can only fly to Turin on the Sunday 21st March as, remember, I'm going to the Rugby at Millennium Stadium on the Saturday. In addition, which is the best site on Internet to try to get a last minute deal on these places, or do I phone the company direct or even look on teletext????? Many Thanks |

I've now narrowed my choice down even further as I'm going to the Wales v Italy game at the Millennium Stadium on the 20th March so can only fly out on the 21st which means either Andorra or Italy (to Turin, therefore, either Courmayer, Cervinia, Champoluc, Gressoney La Thuile, Pila, Bardonecchia, Claviere, Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere, Sansicario or Sagnalonga, according to the Crystal brochure).
Any further ideas considering we don't want to travel far to the slopes we'd prefer a quieter resort I'm also beginning to realise that Italy seems to cater more for people staying half board in hotels rather than self catering. Which should we go for? Thanks for your help |

I assumed Switzerland would be too expensive!!! |

My son, who is 19 and on a gap year before uni, and I, have permission from my wife for the two of us to go skiing for the very first time. I'm looking for the following "must haves":
Easy access to slopes, a reasonably priced all in package to include ski passes, tuition etc, just to make things simple, snow (as we're probably going around 21st March), the possibility of saying "I'll go there again, maybe with my dear wife!!!", pretty resort rather than concrete where we can have a stroll in the evening and have a reasonable choice of a restaurant and a bar or two, France, Austria Andorra or Italy, Is it possible to narrow things down given the above criteria? |
