Hi Sm4sh

Glad you had a good time and got the bug I did exactly the same two years ago, and this weekend I embark on my 4th trip.

I have not been to Andorra or Bulgaria so can only give advice on where I have been.

Kaprun- Austria (March 2009) my first trip excellenat resort if a little quiet on a night, skiing was great and there was a mass of blues to choose from and some steady reds. I didnt find it too expensive either and food drinks were pretty reasonable. We also skied in Zell am see whilst there and again I though the skiing good.

Kranska Gora- Slovenia (Dec 2009) brilliant for beginners as nealry all the runs here were blue and quite short this was my second trip, a bit light on snow and very little to do in the town, I didnt find this resort at all challenging and after four days was pretty bored.

Mayrohofen- Austria (March 2010) I loved this reosrt for my third trip and would definatley go back although I do like to experiance other places. There was so much to do here skied lots of blues and some quite challenging reds, also had excellant one on one coaching which I am sure brought me on leaps and bounds so was worth the money. Town is excellant too with loads to do we took in some traditional Austrian nights which were great.

This time Austria again but we are going to Soll not too sure how the snow is so that's my only worry but I will see on Sunday cant wait.

I think from what little advice I can give I would go with a larger resort as you have plenty to go at all the time and they generally seem to be much more on the ball with instuctors etc.

Some of my friends have tried Bulgaria and didnt like it too much but thats there opinion I suppose.

Enjoy your skiing it took me 38 years to do it first time and now its the one thing that gets booked first, I cant understand what took me so long its a great holiday.

Hope this helps

Steve

Thanks for the advice it all comes in usefull.

Ally in terms of my skiing I would probably say im somewhere inbetween beginner and early intermediate, comfortable on most reds although I suppose that doesnt say how my skiing is just because I can get down, im still taking lesson's each time I go and this will be the fourth visit inside two years.

Wow Ally thats a long report but excellant, I have been into a ski shop in Leeds and dont think im getting correct advice.

Basicaly they measured my foot brought out a couple of pairs of boots and I tried them on, the boots both pairs felt really good very snug and no massive movement although I could move my toes easily and there was maybe a little room to move my heel backwards.

They said if I bought them to take them home and to walk round in them (about 15 to 20 mins at a time) before returning to have them moulded, I have pretty standard feet even though a little small size 6 (laugh ) but they never suggested half of what you went through no machines weight balance etc

I would normally have accpeted what they told me and just bought them, but now am thinking I maybe need to try somewhere else first.

I have an Ellis Brigham nearby at Castleford Xscape so maybe I should try them first?

I have just read about the new Skiset slippers available to buy, does anyone have any experience of these as a newish product as I was looking to have new boots fitted but these obviously seem a cheaper way of doing it.

Ok so I am new to skiing and have seen various threads about ski hire and what you get, as a beginner how do I know what sort of skis I am being given good or bad, is there anything I should look for in particular. Also if and when I decide to buy what sort of price should I be looking to pay for something that will last a good few years.

Socks? I have read various threads on here about socks, having worn Tube socks last year I was thinking about buying better ones this year. Is there any point baring in mind I will be hiring kit and not using my own (as I dont have any yet). I am looking at at getting boots fitted next year should I wait and buy proper socks then or go with it and buy them now. Juts a bit worried how they will feel in hired boots.
