Tony mentioned 'the gentle whisper of snowflakes hitting the ground'.
Reminds me of 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy evening' by Robert Frost. ' He gives his harness bells a shake,to a ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep of easy wind and downy flake' One of my favourite passages and I think it is wonderfully evocative. It usually passes through my mind in some silent back country, just waiting to drop in........ Ahh I'm there!!!!!!!!!! :D (Well, that or Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden!!!!!!!) |

Sorry Tony, your no doubt well written entry was too daunting for me. However, I have just watched the programme on iplayer and thought it was a very badly presented one-sided non story. Which is pretty typical of the BBC I hasten to add.
I had no real opinion of Ryanair prior to the programme - in my opinion they are what they are and people have the benefit of personal choice. Having watched the programme, the reporter Vivian White came across as some kind of Crusader without a Cross, desperately trying to shock with facts already in the public domain. Bit of a tw*t actually. Ryanair I felt were portrayed as a shrewdly run business in a highly competitive market place, and if that was Panorama's aim, then they succeeded. O'Leary must love the free marketing provided by the BBC. |

Tony,
Have flown into Grenoble a couple of times recently and the baggage procedure was different on both occasions, but both similarly chaotic. I know its too late but it is a place to be avoided if at all possible. Packages flying there are cheaper due to the lower costs of airport service charges and navigational service charges. Think Ryanair destination airport ie Hamburg Lubeck, trying to handle Stansted passenger volume  Good Luck :D |

Ally,
This is in danger of being a very interesting moral discussion. Do you notice that older movies have starker goodie/baddie divides whereas modern movies have far greyer areas where one has to take a conscious stance on moral dilemmas, taboo subjects and the like? Is this because society is becoming more complicated and the movies reflect this, or was society simpler when we had simply the good and bad, and ignored the ugly!! A brilliant turning point for me was 'Blazing Saddles' , which took a simple goodie/baddie movie( a Western) and confronted so many taboo subjects, and moral dilemmas that it almost confined the Western type movie to the dustbin of history!!!( And it was funny!!!!) In fact, as an interesting aside, I was recently skiing in North America when Blazing Saddles came on the telly. Now, for me. the whole point of the movie was to illustrate how ignorant and bigoted the white townsfolk were, accentuated by their use of the word 'Nigger'. The word was blanked out in the version I watched, !!! Does this show a legitimate societal change , or have they totally missed the point? Discuss. |

Well, looks like its time to start thinking about ski-ing again. Hope everyone had a great off-season. Mine went well until mountain biking in Slovenia 6 weeks ago when old Brucie here managed to have a head on collision with a car on a mountain road!!
Result - 6 broken ribs, lung problems and a 7 day stay in local Hospital. The good news is that it could have been worse and I live to fight another day. Bad news is that I am still Hors de Combat. More good things are that I have met many Slovenian friends, and by the way it is a beautiful country, and I should be okay for the forthcoming season. Sorry to hear about other peoples mishaps. Think we should all stick to safe sports like skiing and boarding :D |
