This is a personal preference, but I always translate my emails into the receiving language, a sign of respect more than any thing else.... 8)

That's OK if you do speak the language, if you're running through Google translator or Babelfish etc then it's not a great idea, they produce such horrible langue it's nearly impossible to read.

Agreed it is not the perfect translation, and I would not want to translate anything for business using babelfish, but it suffices for a holiday booking.
Where's the best skiing in Scotland?

Snow Time wrote:When were you up in February? That's when we had the amazing snow. I skied 3 out of the 4 weekends in February, once at the Lecht and twice at Cairngorm and it was fantastic.

23rd to 26th. It was midweek. The snow was sh1te, many runs were shut, I was in touch with Ross and he advised me not to waste my time.
Dont mean to pee on your chips, but when I was up and had brought my stuff with me in readiness, the conditions were not condusive for decent skiing. Which is kind of what everyone is trying to say on here, that you cant plan to ski in Scotland. Its fine if you live a couple of hours away and can bail at the drop of a hat when the conditions are great, and I do appreciate they CAN be from time to time, but its so unreliable. You couldnt pick a week in advance, book accommmodation etc, drive up and get a weeks skiing in, unless something miraculous happened. When I go to Europe, I have always been able to ski all week (bar 1 day in Sauze when many lifts were shut due to high winds). And yes - for what its worth, some of my trips to the alps have been pretty last minute, although I always plan one main week in advance.
I'd love to be able to get in the car when I chose to, drive up and ski all weekend in perfect conditions, but it hasnt happened yet. Its actually almost as close for me to cross the channel and drive to france than it is to drive to the Scottish resorts anyway, so given the choice, with the greatest respect to Scotland and those who live there, give me Europe any day.

Very well articulated old boy

I always stay in Saroch it is about a two or three minute bus ride to the Carosello tele cabine, this area has some nice restaurants and bars, not over commercialized

Maybe just maybe I might have brought a couple of copies, narrowing your target market because of age is not a good marketing plan

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut you didn't  It can be a good one, just not necessarily the correct route to go down. I think if you make a product aimed at everyone, for it to be successful it has to be pretty special (Nintendo Wii) and avoid being completely uninteresting to everyone because of compromises made.

Anyhoo, skiing magazines!

Yes agreed you have a point, but with a small target market making a profit becomes a lot tuffer hence the magazine is no more or should I say replaced
I have just looked at the web site mag and I do not think it is aimed at the specialist market, so I go back to my previous point of poor marketing

When I have been (twice) we have hired a car at the airport. I really enjoy the drive though it is long and you need to allow 5 hours with stops. Its nice to have lunch by lake Como.

Also the car is useful in Livigno, we used it to get to the other side of the valley instead of using the buses.

Mike

I always found it a pain driving around Livigno in the winter, I used the bus.......I'm Partial to lunch time drinkey wouldn't like to break the law

Not disputing that at all, just saying the numbers are decreasing all the time, the Daily Star is the only daily newspaper which has recorded a year on year rise (figures published 9th of April). Whilst this is happening the newspapers websites are recording record traffic. I can't really comment on magazines because I don't have the figures about but I am sure a quick google search would show the same trend with very few winners. Dark Summer (a ski freestyle type magazine) stopped printing all together this year to focus on their internet site which is pretty rubbish anyhoo

Maybe because they made such a poor job of promoting it, Ring any bells.....Never heard of the mag
