Bit of a long shot! Very little information available on these on net, has anyone skied them?

Basically am looking for something solely for onpiste carving/side of slopes. My ideal would be a slalom ski but I need a flat mounting as intend to put a knee binding on them.

Any other recommendations welcome. On paper they look good but pricing is a bit heavy.
Cross country ski holidays

Clothing should be the similar to that which you would run in i.e. no padded trousers and or thick jacket. If I am heading uphill or on the flat would normally got for light gloves, running hat (no icecream head but not like wearing a woolen microwave), few thin layers and maybe a light insulated jacket which I can put in rucksack once warmed up. On bottom either running leggings or thermals and cheap waterproofs to keep out wind. As long as you set a speed which allows you to continue then amazing how little insulation required.

You could hop onto any package holiday, one nice thing is that altitude becomes less on an issue as nearly all alpine towns are caught in a temperature inversion for much of winter. If you just wanted to try for a weekend then Geneva, transfer to Courmayeur. The track to Lavanche is fantastic and has multiple pitstops along the way and very scenic. When avalanche risk is high have done this many times in normal ski touring equipment. Of course every alpine town has access so options are limitless, Germany, Slovakia etc also become really good options.
Boarding is pretty cool and certainly when someone can carve on snow board looks amazing. As split boards become more common I would expect a mini revival. Main problem with boarders is same with skiers, give up lessons too early.

"In the UK we do not require UK only instructors to guide people in our hills but we do hope they have a good knowledge of the area."

BEM, you managed to perfectly contradict yourself. If effect your above statement is completely in agreement with the French law. There are no rules on nationality, only qualifications required. BASI 3 or above and or international mountain guide.

Diary of a knee injury

Have to say don't believe in above advice. People come back from serious injuries and go on to win Olympic ski gold/continue as guides/ski instructors for 20-30 years after initial injury. Main problem with knee is that as a joint it only works well when has lot of muscular support. Getting this back is not easy as I am finding out. Still 40% less ultimate strength that prior to injury despite now being in a position to work legs pretty hard. Almost a point of giving up 2013 winter season. Will do 10 days uphill in March and hopefully a week in April and then get on bike for summer and try and ski in September. Interestingly I have been advised against knee brace as affect proprioception.

If there was no loud pop then hopefully you are okay. Is it painful? Apparently with knees more pain is a good sign?

When I ruptured ACL there was a big noise followed by real pain for about 30 seconds and then nothing. Just a sense of thinking am not going to run this off.

:-). Face downhill, with flat skiis pivot skiis perpendicular to slope and then back other way. Upper body should be facing downhill throughout. Basically your heading in straight line but always with skiis perpendicular to slope.

If you watch moguls competition to is basically their technique, although looks much more dynamic then when somone practices on slope. Basic movement exactly same though.

VSB is correct. At least for part of every run people should focus on technique, even if this means just doing 10 turns full concentration at beginning. Plenty of simple drills that will really improve skiing. My favorites.

1) focus on an object ahead (normally piste marker/sign). And ski towards is whilst keeping in your focus. Helps with separation of upper and lower body.
2) practice turning with flat skis, pivoting skis 180 deg, keep facing down slope. Again similar purpose but will also help your mogul skiing .
3) flat pistes/greens/paths:- try to carve on one ski. On flat slope forces you to really focus on body position.
4) Big fast arcs, really squeezing oblique muscles to ensure get good angulation and driving downhill ski hard forward.
