Hangover cures

In extreme circumstances, my brother has plied me with a cocktail made up of solpadiene, dioralytes and vitamin C - disgusting but seemed to do the trick

Has it occured to anyone that reading this thread with interest may suggest that you have a problem
Lots of pictures of the kids on various ski trips looking very cute in their ski gear.

These are B&W photos taken by the professional photographers that hang around ski school meeting places - super quality and quite reasonably priced. I usually end up in the shop trying to stop the OH from buying every photo on the basis that we only have so much wall space and the kids are still young

Just had a quick look at

http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/St-Anton/6day/top

They are quoting a temp of -47C with wind chill at the top for Saturday afternoon :!: :!: :!:

I seem to remember Pavel telling a story about how the tears in his eyes were freezing at such temperatures - brrrrrrrrrrr :x

Isn't Tony heading to St Anton on Saturday? Hope he remembers to wrap up well

Hi gynoski

I have been involved in organising trips for groups up to 40 for the past few years. We usually use a tour operator (generally Crystal) and find that most convenient for the larger groups and they are hard to beat on price when you factor in group discounts (though these are notably less generous around the peak weeks including Christmas/New Year). Crystal operate a number of what they call Clubhotels - essentially hotels that they take over and run themselves. They are usually good for large groups including families and can include on-site creches and childminding facilities.

Good luck wit your hunt

Happy new year to everyone. I hope you all have a good one.

Its been great fun sharing our experiences, learning from each other and sometimes taking the p*** or having the p*** taken out of you (nearly always done in good sport).

Happy skiing
Alpe d'Huez - run ratings

I haven't actually skied the tunnel but its reputation is a bit scary and I get the impression the initial drop-in is pretty intimidating. However, a number of friends have done it and claim that it is not that difficult. A lot depends on conditions but expect large moguls.

As regards the rest of the resort, relax. The resort is really enjoyable with lots of variety. The Sarenne is the other run that people talk about - PR claims that it is the longest Black run in Europe/World. In reality a beautiful run that is blue standard for most of its length with a fairly short black section at the very top and one or two short red level sections further down. As its on the "back" of the mountain, it is quiet with spectacular views.

The central area, under the DMC gondola, can be a bit busy (though probably not an issue next week) but it is well worth getting out into the fringes of the resort for more interesting terrain and you will probably have the slopes to yourself

Heading there myself in 4 weeks and can't wait.

Enjoy
Cheap Flights With Ryanair

factual wrote:Wanderer's attitude looks like a typical one amongst those who just complain about Ryanair for normal things which happen all over the skies and airports to any airline, in a 'kick the cat' mode. It's as if complaining about a wretched day walking home in pouring rain and not Ryanair itself.

At least Wanderer kind of admits it at the start of the reply.

The general attitude is not appalling. I have seemed to find this in a few members of staff, but a few air hosts and check-in assistants having this doesn't mean the whole airline has an appalling attitude. I certainly haven't found that, and quite the opposite.

Wanderer gives away irrationality by claiming there is a real problem with dependability. Ryanair are away at the top of European airlines for dependability in nearly all areas. Wanderer chooses to shovel everyone's fears about flying onto one of the most dependable airlines, for no reason at all but to attack them.

Unless Wanderer is complaining about Ryanair not giving immediately a night in a hotel, transport there and food money or vouchers when there is a problem. I know that Easyjet often don't give a hotel room and food when passengers are delayed overnight.

It's unacceptable for an airline to do that. For an airline to first go into business they should be required to offer those things for delays as short as 7 hours, or 5 hours at night time, and no airline should be allowed to operate if they don't have those provisions to give.

An airline which doesn't give that is disgraceful, Wanderer is right if that's what was meant, but the government are much worse for not making it a legal necessity.

Sorry Factual - I think you missed my point. I don't believe in attacking Ryanair - they are what they are and that can be damn useful sometimes.

I just wish they didn't make such a virtue of being obnoxious towards their customers (even if the customers are being unreasonable, as they often are, when it comes to levels of expectations from a budget carrier) and, indeed, everyone else - Governments, airport operators, other airlines, etc.

As regards dependability, I acknowledged that their punctuality record is excellent. My primary concern is about their attitude when the plane doesn't show up for whatever reason (and there are those who would suggest that technical problems tend to happen a lot more with late evening flights with low passenger loads). It doesn't happen often but when it does, the consequences for the passengers can be awful and, as I said, Ryanair make no effort to provide for those who are stranded as a result.

Its a long haul over to Les Arcs and you need to be very careful on the way back if you don't want to get stranded and face a very expensive taxi ride home. I agree with the others - if you want to go, one day is probably all your will want to do. I think there is actually a Paradiski Discovery pass that allows 1 day in Les Arcs that would probably be the easiest solution - about €210 rather than €246 for the full Paradiski area pass for 6 days IIRC. You can check if out on the resort website. Good luck and enjoy.
