So, tonight I had my final consultation with the specialist and can confirm that one year, two months, 22 days and 2 hours post accident I am finally back in the land of the normal! No longer under treatment and free of hospital appointments. My acl replacement is as solid as a rock .

I thanked my consultant but told him that I hoped I'd never see him again (in a nice way), then I went and gave my physio a big hug and a bottle of plonk and then I drove home towards a beautiful sunset with a huge grin on my face.

I feel liberated and I'm celebrating with a glass of wine :D

skiing and a bad knee

Hiya

I skied in January, 9 months and one day post op. I took it easy, only two hours a day for three days (even though I was tempted to do more) and I lasted pretty well. I took ibuprofen and paracetamol every four hours to prevent swelling and this dealt with any pain too, which was minimal.

I wear a brace on my mcl damaged leg but only neoprene on my acl leg as I've been assured my knee is as strong as it was pre-injury. Is your acl replaced with your patella tendon? I felt it in that area a touch.

I'm off again in 16 days for a week and hopefully won't have to hold back so much this time. I'm certainly not going to go crazy though, it's still only 12 months post-op and I want to ski at new year :D. In fact, I've got my final follow up appointment with the specialist this evening and then I'm hoping I'll never have to see him ever again!!!

Good luck

I had the pleasure of chicken pox when I was six months pregnant.

Not only did I feel fat, spotty and covered in that horrid white stuff, it was during Euro '96 and all my mates were down the pub watching the England v Scotland, as was mr a (I insisted). One of the lowest points in my life, there were lots of tears

Just to add insult to injury I'm covered in scars, one of which is in the middle of my eyebrows

I hope you feel better soon Rose

Rose, would one of those my-situation-was-worse stories help or hinder?
