I had a pair of Dare2be salopettes quite a few years ago. No problem with waterproofing but breathability was a bit of an issue. My old-style cardboard lift-pass was unrecognisable as such after spending a week inside the pockets. Luckily, the transponder 'thingie' inside still worked so I had no problems getting through the turnstiles.

La Vallee Blanche (on the Chamonix side of Mont Blanc) should be awesome in the current conditions. In Courmayeur itself, some really good off-piste off the Youla and the Cresta d'Arp, that we weren't good enough to take advantage of on our trip there.

I'm starting to sound like a 'stuck record' but I'd suggest you check out your nearest indoor 'fridge'/snow centre. Things can quickly get very tedious if you just turn up and do your own thing, but many of them run structured development courses and have slalom race nights etc. (not just for the experts either.)
I have seen the likes of Trencher and Innsbrucker recommend in-line skating as an excellent training aid too. I have no personal experience of that but it seems like they haven't come to any harm from it :-) . Of course both of these suggestions rely on you living within reasonable travelling distance of an indoor snow centre or ice-rink. Sounds like you have made good progress on your Niederau trip. Nice one -) . |

Ha ha! That makes me feel a lot better. I crashed at speed at the end of one of my timed slalom runs on the Südhang at Scheffau  . I was too busy looking over my shoulder at the timing device and went off the edge of a roller that wouldn't have been a problem if, 1: I'd been going a little slower, and 2: I'd been looking where I was going! I don't think I was doing 100kph  . Luckily there were no witnesses; the kids were still in ski- school and it was just out of range of the video camera.

Have a good one and save some slush and ice for me -) . I'll be in Val Thorens (same area but a 'little' higher) the following week. It will be my first time in that area so I can't offer any advice on runs (except chase the sun. -) ) Slush, ice powder, corduroy: it's all there to be enjoyed. :D |
