I have only messed about for an hour or so a couple of times at ChillFactore, Manchester while my kids were at tubing/luging parties. It was a hundred times better than the dendix at Rossendale. Reports from people who have had lessons there are generally very good.

Mmm, interesting. I was aware that some skullduggery went on regarding ski-domaine measurements and that Monte Rosa was one of the worst offenders. Didn't realise it was quite so widespread though.

Divide the cost of the holiday that the travel agent has quoted you by ten. Put that much into a savings account each month and then look to book it early next year. The amount you will have saved would cover a good chunk of your spending money as well as the reduced cost of the holiday. -) |

It doesn't do any harm to get a bit fitter and build up the leg strength (I find that cycling works for me), but the best thing is to get some lessons and work on your technique. I have always been a 'first lift till last' skier. 15 years ago it was because I was as strong as an ox and as fit as a butcher's dog. These days it's because I'm doing it right(-ish) -)

Seems like it's 'bonkers busy' out there at the moment. Only thing I can suggest (if you're not too fussed about location) is to try your luck contacting accommodation in the outlying villages like St. Jakob or Pettneu. These places often aren't as precious about the Sat-Sat thing. You would obviously have to factor in taxi costs if you are intending to sample the nightlife. Hope this helps and good luck!
Copied and pasted from the Sidney Reilly site. Not great news, but it could be worse -) . 2. Bookings are normally from a Saturday to a Saturday - the only way that you can get something different is at the last minute or maybe in the off season although some tour companies do offer different start days. |

Wow, £19.99! Bargain :-) . |

This is the sort of stuff I imagine the OP will find very useful. The thread had drifted somewhat and much of the advice, albeit well-intended, would probably go right over the head of a first-time skier. I've picked up some good tips though (thanks guys) -) . By the way Edgy, how did you get on with the White Rock gloves? |

I'm not getting into the 'let's diss Borovets thing' except to say that I went there as a beginner about 15 years ago and loved it. I would not go back now, but that's not to say that someone beginning skiing on a budget; or someone like yourself, picking up where you left off 'many moons ago' would not have an equally great time. I do question why you would want to book so early though. There are always deals available nearer the time. Is Feb 11th half term week next year or is it the week after? Have a good one.
