Just booked Pila. Will post a review upon return, end of March.

Sounds like what I need. Thanks guys. I had hoped that by waiting, the cost of Obergurgl would come down but it doesn't look likely and I'd rather get something booked.

Anyone been to Pila and can tell me what it's like? I'd specifically like to know if there are some easy runs that could be managed by a nervous early-intermediate, possibly supervised by an instructor. The piste map shows lots of reds, yet what I've read suggests it's a resort suitable for beginners. I don't mind skiing the same 1 or 2 runs over and over again, so mileage isn't important. I just need to build my confidence and practise turning. I've previously skied in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl and found them fine. Unfortunately they are too expensive this year. I'm limited to mid-March, departing from Bristol, which narrows my choices. Pila keeps coming up on TO sites, so that's why I was wondering about it.

I'm interested to know this too as we haven't booked anything yet and are limited to mid-March onwards. I looked up the snow history for Valmorel here and it looks like the upper slopes might just be ok. I've never been, so I'll do a bit more research. Can any J2Skiers comment?
And I've just noticed it closes for the season in mid-April. |

Hi Sara. I haven't got personal experience of the area, but looking at the snow history it seems like a good bet. Take a look at Cauterets, for example, here. I was surprised how good the snow seems to be in late March.
