All skis are much the same

Well I always buy skis on a certain shape I want. After that don't care what the brand is. Have said before, everyone should have min 2 pairs of skis (beauty of renting), piste skis should be <75mm and offspiste should be 100-110mm. Everything in-between fits into bracket of average because manufacturers are just making a compromise ski for mass market. Basically bit boring onpiste and bit narrow offpiste.

I can confirm 9am was snowing medium heavy at Grand Montets. Enough for me to give up skinning about 100m from top, rip off the skins and get first turns of season. Knee felt good, unfortunately no wallet in jacket and too lazy to skin back up for 2nd run.

Ranchero Skis Again 12months 3 weeks after incident ?.Anyone in town PM me I am buying the fizzy.

More than happy to say I have spent that sort of money on bindings and skins, forget the skis part.

How anyone who has skied a 120mm underfoot and then gone onto a slalom ski can say there is no difference is beyond me. What I do agree is that nearly all brands have a quality offering, so similar price, similar shape will have similar performance. Having said that you will never see me on a Volkl. Flex does just not work for me.

Nothing to do with hosts. Guy was acting as a ski instructor without having done Eurotest as required in France. Basically ripping of instructors of all nationalities working in France.

Am not sure where EU comes into this. Guy broke French law and is in jail for it.

Juddernaut, where exactly in the valley did you ski because pretty much every resort has an un-comparable run:-
Aguille de Midi:- VB, ski touring, more options than can be noted.
Grand Montets:- Pas De Chevre
Le Tour:- Trient.
Brevant/Flegere:- Run over top to Le Buet.

Massive vertical, can ski N/S/E/W facing slopes in valley. No where can compete with this variety. Now if you want motorway piste skiing, absolutely better places to be. Does not affect statement about best terrain of any ski resort in world though.

Am afraid guy should be locked up. Interesting that just for the sake of a bit of French bashing people are willing to tolerate person working without correct qualifications.

Would you accept a non qualified person to fit a boiler or do dodgy electrics in your home? Look at what just happened in Lake District, exactly why countries have laws to protect consumer and the person who has invested in getting correct credentials. Responding back with list of exceptions to various laws and what/when/exactly they should apply to, this is promotion of chaos. Western society is civilized because of laws, guy could not follow them, society therefore expects punishment.

He has no more right to opt out law then I do to break speed limit, avoid tax, litter etc.

As per above Cervinia is great for a certain type of skiing. If you are intermediate level and like long cruisy runs is perfect. If your an expert, hire a pair of GS skis for the week you will also have a great time. Hence it is perfect for mixed groups as long as people are willing to change their skiing to match the resort.

For offpiste and or steep skiing yes there are much much better places. For everything else cannot really be faulted, good food, sunny, decent vertical, guaranteed snow, reasonable priced, I had a great time there. Not a patch on ski terrain offered by Chamonix but that is every other resort in world. Would definitely go back and should be perfect location for a lot of people and groups.

Chamonix on 7th, have spare room if anyone is still in need for more this season. Looks like plenty more if forecast over weekend.
