Ally,
The higher the flex, the stiffer the boot will be. In general terms, lower end skiers do not need so much micro control so do not require stiff boots. Conversely advanced skiers and racers require stiff boots so that the slightest movement is channelled into controlling the ski. The same applies, again in general terms, to the skis themselves. |

That works for me too. Some days are worse than others when you get sole cramp, but I think thats usually down to dehydration having overdone the apres ski the night before!! |

Exactly - in not conforming to the norm they reinforce their conformism to their ideal of the norm. |

Love it!!!
I'm just back from Fernie and was ski-ing with some young 'dudes' and that was the gibberish they were speaking!!!! Isn't it great to find that nothing much changes. I remember the punk days of the late 1970's when the youth of the day thought they were being individual and different. That youth are now todays professionals who cant believe how idiotically they behaved!! So todays (snow)punks talk in this ridiculous gibberish to try to prove how independent and different they are and it just sounds moronic and formulaic. Trouble is, they think they are cooooool! I dont think there is any chance of them becoming tomorrow's professionals!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call me old fashioned but I think there is too much low life 'culture' sneaking into North American snow sports. I think I will stick to traditional European resorts in future. |

Great report Tony. Never been to SC but sounds like it might be worth a visit.
By the way, did someone leave that old pair of Scotts on the bridge??? |

This might sound controversial, but is there not enough to think about without adding falling to the already overloaded thought processes. And as for teaching how to fall, well I am a qualified instructor and I've never been on THAT course!!!!!!!!!!
Every fall is different and gravity and chance play a huge part, so I would say attempting to prepare for a fall would be self defeating. It would be like having 'avoiding inevitable head on collisions' in the Driving Test! There has been good advice here about trying to get the ski's downhill, but lets leave it there folks. Ultimately the body's self preservation mechanism will kick in automatically. |
