Sounds great. We've been eyeing up Cornwall and Devon for our retirement pad, hopefully no more than about 10 years away......if I can keep going that long.

That's not very helpful. |

Agree with bandit and admin. I haven't lost any weight in recent times, just moved it around a bit. Muscles have got bigger, squidgy bits have got smaller.
I've never worked it out but I reckon I must consume at least 4,000 calories a day when on a skiing holiday. ie, usual food plus peanuts/energy bars throughout the day and 2 or 3 beers/glasses of wine every evening. Came back last time and I'd lost a couple of pounds in weight! |

Thanks tonypants. I've been looking at Trip Advisor. Quite useful to have the attractions listed there. Dinosaur museum is on my list.

I haven't been to enough resorts to feel qualified to comment but I did think that Val d'Isere (and Espace Killy) was a fantastic place to go skiing. That is my gold standard at the moment.

So, how much exercise have you put in today then snapzzz?
You need to get stuck in. With your new fancy bright coloured jacket and pants you don't want to look like a teletubby on your first day in La Plagne in December...... |

Can anyone give me some tips on what to do and where to go in the Isle of Wight? We're having a mini break there at the beginning of the summer hols. Never been before. We're staying in Ventnor.
Merci! |

For me, it's an age thing. I could eat and drink what I liked as a teenager and in my 20's. ie a tub of Haagen Dazs or a whole packet of hobnobs as a 'snack' in the evening. Not an ounce of weight gain. 8)
I started to notice a "softening" around the waist in my early 30's. This coincided with the arrival of babies, more responsibility at work and a lack of time to keep fit. I was probably the most unfit I have ever been by the time I got to about 35. Latterly (last 5 years or so), I've worked very hard to maintain my fitness levels. Sadly this has meant a big reduction in snacking on chocolate/biscuits/crisps, radically cutting down on alcohol consumption :( , and, most weeks, doing 3 or 4 fitness activities. This includes mountain biking, indoor static biking, indoor rowing, a gym visit each week and, of course, some Ashtanga yoga. I think it's best to maintain a steady regime rather than specially try to get fit at a certain point in the year or go on a particular diet. I'm now nearer 50 (just!) than 40 and, touch wood, feeling pretty fit and healthy. |
