Excellent. I was in Florence a week ago suffering in 36 degree heat. Looking forward to some proper weather soon.

I would love to go if i could guarantee an aurora show too.

Probably too far south for the light show. I think you need to be in the north of the country near the arctic circle boundary.

Can't believe you missed my in-depth report.... :(
Green SKi Runs

We learnt to ski as a family in Hemsedal, Norway. No nasty surprises, some decent green and blue runs and uncrowded slopes. I thought it was a great beginner resort.

Our 1st ski holiday was in April 2010 when our children were 12 and 10. They loved it. We're now a lot more experienced and a lot poorer after a further 4 skiing trips since then! The kids are now happy to tackle black runs.

I think Neillson arrange package trips as well as Ski Norway but we've always gone down the DIY route. Have a look in the scandinavian section of the forum for a report on our last trip to Norway.

Try to get your children a lesson or two in an indoor ski venue in the UK beforehand if you can. It really helped push our two on (and us adults).
Les Arcs etc

Might take a little longer than that depending on which bit of Les Arcs you are staying in. We've not used the funicular but I think it's only 10 or 15 mins up the mountain?

We were lazy last time and just hailed a cab. Took about 30 mins to get to Les Arcs 1950 and about 65 euros.

Roll on the winter. I've had enough hot weather thanks....
I've looked into driving in the past but ruled it out. We would need to drive for 4 to 5 hours to get to Folkestone (approx 230 miles). Another 600 miles and 10 hours after that + the chunnel not appealing!

Are you looking at 16th to 23rd February? I had a look on the Eurostar website just now and they still have 4 tickets for a total of £1356-00 for standard non-flexible day train.

Thanks Ally but I've just gone on the site now and the standard return leg is showing as sold out. i think we're going to give up.....
