Resorts with glaciers would probably suit as glacier areas are generally serviced by surface lifts. The problem is getting there, although Tignes has the funi. |

It would be pretty difficult to ski fast in a wedge shape!!(Although no doubt some people would disagree).
I use a fruit analogy when advising on speed and shape of turn. Starting with steeper slopes, use a grapefruit to round your turns and control your speed! As the slope eases off, less completion is necessary so think melons!!! On less steep slopes, like wide motorways when you feel the need for speed, think bananas!!!!! Modern carving skis will always feel more comfortable on edge. The days of the 'schuss' are over!!!! |

Its weird that the weather systems have been missing the Pyrenees. I'm heading out to Soldeu for the rest of the season at the end of this month, so am a little bit concerned.
My buddy is instructing out there and reports conditions as, 'not great' at the moment. I've been out the last two years in early February and it has dumped both times so I'm confident the snow will arrive. No point in worrying, Que Sera and all that!! Tour ops offer passes at the same price as resort but stiff you on the exchange rate.
Buy from the office in resort, using a good rate credit/debit card that also doesn't stiff you on the rate. Strange that Tignes was mentioned. The only 'deal' on a pass I have had recently was bought through the Youth Hostel in Tignes. Seemed to cost virtually nothing when bought with acomodation. |
