VT has lots of very high skiing. Should be very enjoyable if weather is nice - very exposed in bad weather.
On one previous trip to Sauze, we took a day trip to VT via Val Frejus, as I recall. One thing to note - at that time the run down from the gondola was either a black or a pretty demanding red. Definitely not beginner territory. However that was a good few years ago and they may have opened up some easier links in the interim. Enjoy your trip. |

I think I would generally agree with Bandit about just getting to the resort but if I have read your post correctly, you are travelling on the Friday which means that the traffic may not be too bad. I wonder whether it is worth stopping off at Bourg St Maurice - without traffic that is only about 30 minutes drive from Tignes. Looking at the map, I wonder whether somewhere like La Clusez might be a better option. Don't forget, you are only going to be skiing for a few hours so even a very small resort will do you. However, I have no idea what the drive from there to Tignes might be like - Google Maps only gets you so far! |

The Austrian vignette (motorway sticker) costs about €8 for a 10 day pass. I suspect pretty much any (sensible)route will also take you through some reasonably expensive tolled tunnels.
However, the real question is why you would drive to Livigno if you fly to Memmingen? or conversely, why would you fly to Memmingen if you want to get to Livigno? Unless, I am mistaken, it is a very long, ackward and probably expensive drive and you be bypassing many superb ski resorts along the way in Austria and Switzerland. If I were you, I would rethink my plans (unless already locked into bookings you can't change) and try for something more convenient, e.g. flights to Bergamo or Milan or else forget about Livigno and head somewhere in Austria. |

I headed off for a long weekend in Soll a couple of weeks ago in probably the worst physical condition ever and expected to really suffer. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how well I coped with pretty full-on days (and reasonably full-on evenings also - but thats a different story). A bit of thigh burn in the afternoons, probably from skiing too much in the back seat but generally managed ok.
Then the day after I got home, I somehow managed to strain a muscle in my leg just walking from the carpark into the office. I suppose the system just locked up and even a minor stretch was enough to give me a strain. Anyway, have now got a bit of physio to get me ready for the next trip in just under 3 weeks. |

How young can you start to snowboard?

Heading off with the family in a few weeks. However, I am concerned that my 9 year old may be attracted to the "dark side". I suppose at 9, he will be physically able to snowboard but the question is, would it be too early for him?
Personally, I would prefer to see him master skis to a reasonable level before defecting - he has been skiing a few times and can manage most blues and easy reds but not terribly well. I suppose I feel more comfortable with him skiing because I can judge whats going on and can give him some guidance, know when to slow him down, etc. Any others gone through this dilemma who can offer advice? |
