Hmmmmm. Imagine waking up the following view out of your front door

How busy is Les Arcs in January?

Surely all resorts are quiet in january? I specifically mention this as we were in Val d'Isere and Tignes in early January this year. No queueing at all, lovely uncrowded pistes....and bluebird skiing every day.

where in europe for november

Hemsedal in Norway opens at the beginning of November (assuming they get the snow). The forecast is looking decent at the moment with snow coming from the weekend (they've struggled to open on time the last 2 or 3 seasons). Not the most challenging skiing although off piste is supposed to be decent.

Yes I would say les Arcs would be fine, but would recommenb they stay in either Arc 2000 or Arc 1950 if both are looking for wide, relatively easy flattering runs, with options for something a little more challenging slightly further afield over the 1600/1800 Peisey-Vallandry side.

All the best

jon.

Just watch the last bit of skiing back into 1950 though. It's a real bun fight where the piste narrows just above the village. When we were there (early March), the pistes were pretty scalped and icy. The easier route for the more cautious skier, would be to ski back into Arc 2000 and then catch the short gondola ride into 1950.
Interestingly (and related to another current thread), I ordered a new set of winter tyres today. They will sell like hot cakes if it starts to snow early this winter.

Jon - very good advice.

We saw a large 4X4 on it's side in a ditch in Hemsedal, Norway last season (April). It didn't have norwegian plates - I think it was a dutch or belgian vehicle. Presumably on summer tyres.

We have 4x4 coupled with winter tyres but on an Audi A6 so we don't have the high centre of gravity problem. Best of both world's (other than grim fuel economy!)

Apart from a man's drink like whiskey. Southern Jessie with your sparkles!

I meant no other bubbly could touch it.

And whiskey is possibly the worlds most disgusting drink, apart from ouzo. The fact is the scots favoured tipple says it all.

How about pastis? More or less my favourite summer drink.
