This is what happens when your dad lends you boots that have been kept in the garage for 10 years...
Just glad it happened on the walk up to the Penken, rather than halfway down the Kamikaze. lol |

Know I'm pretty new to this forum, but haven't found a definitive gallery thread here yet. Either I'm not looking enough, it doesn't exist, or it's deemed too much for the bandwidth by the powers that be.
Don't want to break the rules, but are pics of ski-related exploits ok on here or would a separate section be beneficial to all? Am waiting for the obligatory [mod edit] to appear now... |

Very true. This [in theory] could be any budget ski holiday... Chose Mayrhofen for 2 main reasons: Fantastic value for money as far as the liftpass goes. Unprecidented nightlife (see oh oh oh oh oh post from me... lol) Had a quip that I used repeatedly after coming back from the place that I'd imagine a lot of people on here could relate to: I drink in my local because its always full of likeminded people who go there to enjoy the atmosphere and the laugh. To me, Mayrhofen is the opitomy of this, for example - of a night-time, it may be full of drunken people, but they all have one common interest... You don't see police cars racing up and down the street for one. [edit for Dave Mac:] Have been to quite a few places in Europe, it's just that Mayrhofen sticks out as a must again for us. All of us are proficient skiers/boarders - I'm personally rubbish on ski's - I know how to turn, stop and don't mind taking risks, but have reached a point in my life where I feel that if I don't try boarding this season then I never will and to be fair, it'd be poetic to board all the runs (then again, I've hardly touched the whole range available) I'm used to on ski's. Maybe its that 'crazy' thing again... ;)_ |

Hope you had a good time and visited the Finken Nest...
Strangest bar I've ever been in - it snows inside for one! |

Have a personal goal for the 2008/09 season - might be far-fetched, but been in discussion amongst a circle of friends that it'd be feasible to have a week in Mayrhofen where the most expensive thing a person was to pay for would be the liftpass...
Me and a friend reckon flights to/from Innsbruck, transport (even taxi at a push between 4 people) up the valley, and a sizeable apartment shared between likeminded folk. Only problem is, Feb/March is the consensus as being the majority vote for best time (for us at least) thus being pretty peak season. Any input appreciated on this. ...unless you all think I'm just crazy. ) |

Thanks for all the help everyone - yup, that was the one. Been offline for far too long due to issues that don't need to be mentioned, but I'm back... The song brought a smile to my face and made me promise to myself I'm going back to Mayrhofen next year almost purely for that... |

Went to Mayrhofen last March, around the same time as you mentioned and it wasn't extremely busy. First day piste was a bit patchy but second day (and thereafter) was apparently some of the best snow of the season. I'm hoping for a repeat performance this season...

Realise how insane this sounds, and it is only my second post, but in ALL the bars in Mayrhofen there's a song thats played that I want to know the name of (unless anyone is willing to actually send me it...) Its (obviously) in German, and the chorus (am I really typing this...) goes "Whoa Oh Oh Oh Oh" - When I say ALL the bars, I literally do mean pretty much all of the apres ski bars in and around the town centre including the Ice Bar, Moe's and Nikki's - anyone any idea's?
 |
