Had the best meal of my entire life (no exaggeration!) in The Rose. Its, erm, kinda just round the bend to the left from Scotland Yard - If you get to the Billa supermarket, you've gone too far...
...whilst I appreciate it IS hard to find a bad culinary experience in Austria, this stood out so much that I took a photo of it:
:D [EDIT] Oh, and yes, that IS a tomato that's been cut into the shape of a rose. Fantastic.
Er - THIS place? lol ![]() |

Bus up or down the valley can sort this out - down being preferable, but I wouldn't recommend coming back via the Horbergbahn unless you like standing around in a car park for ages. :( |

A mate of mine is off to Mayrhofen then too so daint be put off by a bunch of merry boarding pranksters from Seaham on the same flight.

Just realised I never posted after I did the 'shoestring' thing... The idea kinda worked, the lift-pass was the most expensive thing to buy, although the dire strength of the Euro at the time meant we needed about double the spending cash than the previous time (went to the Spar down from the Penken on the first day and a jar of Nescafe worked out at £9!) We only ate in 1 night out of 7, hence not saving as much as we could of, but as per my luck in M, we caught the weather.
Thanks again to all the info provided by people on here, without you, it wouldn't have been possible. I definitely owe some Zillertal Pils out now. :-) Here's some pics... ![]() The view from our Balcony. ![]() Board Park. ![]() Halfway down the Ahorn Red. ![]() Halfway UP the Ahorn Red. ![]() Obv the White Lounge - weather was GLORIOUS that day. ![]() Mmmmmm - Zillertal Pils. |

Dunno much about the 'Snowhome' thing, but the place we booked for March this year was 99 Euro's each with 5 of us sharing an apartment-style flat. 2 bedrooms, self contained kitchen, toilet and shower etc. Fresh bread delivered on a morning and the Billa Supermarket was 5 mins down the road. Had the whole floor to ourselves so the balcony was on 2 sides. Hell, they even had a SNES with Mario and Donkey Kong Country...
We booked it on the Mayrhofen website thanks to the info provided by all you good people. Link's HERE if you need it. |

I'd have to side with the Mayrhofen idea. Appreciate people noting the fact it is gonna be busy in March, but we stayed in Finkenberg a couple of years ago on the 2nd week of March and of an evening, it was noticeably quiet, yet had the picturesque qualities you might be looking for.
...sayin that, I'd prob stay away from the Finken Nest on a Wednesday night if things haven't changed recently. Lol.
Moe's on a Friday? [EDIT] Actually, subject to you not minding staying at the top of a mountain, the Crystalhutte is known for being a quality stay. Imagine an art gallery with sheepskin sun-lounger's, a huge sun-trap balcony and hot tubs. I'll see if I can dig out the website. |

Cheers for that. Had a quick look on the site and its given me some more of an idea of the type of thing I'm looking for. Dunno whether I'll be able to get to the Jobs Fair though - Live in the Northeast, so massive trek for me to get to London and don't drive, but I'm working on it.
[EDIT] Most of the chalet host/assistant positions seem to need either kitchen qualifications or experience in working in one - anyone know if this is a must, as haven't worked in a kitchen for many a year... :( |

Hiya peeps, thinking about doing a season in Austria this year since am outta work and looking for a change. Thing is, I'm a bit concerned about not having any hotel based qualifications, although have an extensive background in Customer Service/Sales/Bar Work/Management and other than skiing being a big hobby, I'm also well into cooking/entertaining and know basic German... If anyone's got any pointers/info on this, I'd love to hear it, including wages, hours etc, or if anyone's got any places available, let me know.
Don't fancy submitting a stack of application forms before I know I'm in with a chance. |
